Guest guest
Dear Lorraine, Try wearing the soft collar upside down. They do so do surgery on necks. Maybe he doesn't but " they " as in docs, do. I've just been reading about occipital nerve releases and fusion of C1 C2 vertabre. Here is a page that describes what happened to me with my resent neck episode - http://www.medscape.com/viewarticle/424940_print (if you aren't registered with Medscape you will need to do so to read this) Basically since my c1 and/or c2 vertabre sublux it compresses the occipital nerve causing severe pain with the origin at the base of the head/top of neck. So you have pain from the compressed nerve along with muscle/tendon/whatever pain from the subluxation. Like having the worst migraine PLUS! (the occipital nerve is believed to be the root cause of most migraines and painful cluster headaches). Some of the pain is typically described as like getting shocked - which was what felt like happened if I tried to move my neck, like I came in contact with a raw power line right at the base of my skull. And that was only one type of pain I had. Nasty, nasty, nasty! Again, I missed where you described the specific pains/problems you are having so I can't say whether yours is like mine. Hugs, B.
