Hi,

I have not checked the alt.support.chronic-pain

newsgroup for ages. I went to groups.google.com

to have a look, and found this document there,

which is their FAQ. It has a lot of useful links

for resources, so I decided to paste it here,

since some of you might be interested. If you are

going to use the newsgroup, remember that it is a

totally open forum, not moderated like a mailing

list. If you are going to post there, use another

e-mail address (set up one just for that purpose,

and just delete all mail there) or use a spam

blocker in your e-mail address, or you will get

a lot of spam e-mail, which is so annoying!!!

Aase Marit :) (who tries to type with Peanut

nudging my arm while I am typing, she wants mom

to cuddle her!!! Guess I will have to do that...

____________

1. GENERAL NEWSGROUP INFORMATION AND 'NETIQUETTE'

This is a newsgroup. It is not a bulletin board, mailing list, emails or

" the Internet " .

It is not moderated - no one individual or group of people is in control.

It's up to you whether you give out any personal information. Some people

choose to remain completely anonymous, some people are open about who they

are and where they're from. It's your choice, although it's generally not

recommended to give out your personal details.

As with any newsgroup, it's completely up to you what threads you read, what

threads you ignore, and what threads you respond to.

As with any newsgroup (and with life), if you are rude you will probably

find people responding in kind.

As with any newsgroup, often arguments and 'flame wars' erupt.

As with any newsgroup, often discussions go 'off topic'. However, as this is

a *support* newsgroup, it's not frowned on in the same way as with many

other newsgroups.

Sometimes people will disagree with what you say. This doesn't mean they

dislike you, they just disagree with what you are saying, or perhaps how you

are saying it. People who can't distinguish between these often end up

attacking the person instead of dealing with what they've said (ad hominem

attacks).

As with all non-binary newsgroups, binary files (ie attachments), HTML posts

and sales pitches (SPAM) are not allowed. Further to this, posts in all caps

are not recommended as they are near impossible to read, are considered

SHOUTING and poor form on the Internet. Crossposting to more than a couple

of newsgroups is considered poor netiquette.

Most newsgroups discourage top posting (where the reply appears above the

post it's replying to), however, as many people in this newsgroup have

physical limitations whereby a lot of scrolling can cause difficulties

and/or pain, it is acceptable in this newsgroup. But for those who are able,

it is strongly suggested that snipping portions of the post that aren't

relevant to your reply is done, particularly when there is a long post to

which you are replying with only a short amount of text, such as " I agree " !

Archives of newsgroups are kept at http://www.google.com or more

specifically http://tinyurl.com/24q7a

More information on posting DOs and DON'Ts, can be found at

http://www.chronicpainfoundation.org/home/index.php?module=ascp

____________

2. ASC-P NEWSGROUP INFORMATION

If you want medical advice/suggestions, it's pretty hard to do so without

giving at least some details about your medical condition. But you're

certainly free to 'lurk' and read other people's posts, which may be helpful

to you.

It is possible to find some wonderful support, advice, friendship and a

sense of community here. Many have found their participation in this

newsgroup to be a life-changing experience when they find that there are

people going through what they are going through, and are offered

suggestions for how to deal with their condition that may not have

considered before.

Most people on this newsgroup aren't medical specialists, but have gained a

lot of knowledge through their search for understanding about their own

condition. Information here is given on good faith, but not to be taken as

official medical advice, so *always* talk to your doctor about changing any

aspect of your treatment.

Medication such as opiods are often discussed in this newsgroup due to use

in treating chronic pain. Inappropriate use of these or any other drugs is

not condoned, and this newsgroup does not exist as a resource for those who

wish to seek information on the illegal use of drugs, prescription or

otherwise.
