Hi Tori,

I've had bad toenail issues for several years now. Nobody knows what the

problem is. I've taken oral anti-fungal meds for months and it did not help.

I've heard that putting Vick's Vapor Rub on them, cover in white, cotton

socks and keep it on overnight will help....but my Yorkie wants to eat

through the sock and lick the Vicks off my toes...so I don't know if this

works or not.

Mine are very yellow and thickened...it's REALLY GROSS...but after all these

years, I'm becoming accustomed to hiding them.

Hi Tori,

I have 'graves nails' also and they are disgusting. When I am euthryoid

they look better though. It would be a good idea to see a podiatrist and

have your nails TESTED for fungus...make sure they take clippings from EACH

nail and send them in to be tested. Do NOT allow them to just look at them

and say 'oh you have a fungus' here take this or here use this...medicine

for fungus nails has many many nasty side effects and are known

carcinongenics.

I thought I had fungus on my nails, cause they looked like those TV ads of

fungus toenails...my podiatrist did the clippings and sent them out

tests which came back negative for ALL toenail fungus. The first one told

me 'you have nail fungus' fill this presciption. A friend had already

warned me about making sure to be tested and do not take anything until I

had done that because of the side effects. I thank God that she was well

aware of this or would have blindly done what the doctor said. I also found

a new podiatrist who told me he would test clippings but suspected my

thyroid levels were off...he was right.

Hope this helps,

Jody

My husband has toenail fungus - so of course I've done the research... yes

there is the nasty blackbox meds that you can take... or you can put tea

tree oil on them every day or you can put vinegar on them every day for a

while.... it takes awhile no matter what you do. took a six week

course of the blackbox meds and it didn't fix it totally.. it's a tough

fungus to get rid of if that is what you have.

Yes, although there are some antifungal medications that can be

applied topically as a kind of varnish. I read a paper on one

that was seeking US approval.

It takes several weeks repeated use to get a good concentration

of the fungicide below the nail, but once there it achieves

similar concentrations to the same fungicide taken orally, but

with less risk of other ill effects.

Simon, who has stayed free of fungal infections under his nails

thankfully.
