So Happy about Melatonin

After moving from Central time to Eastern Time a month ago and then

losing an hour to Daylight savings, our lives have been miserable.

It is hard enough for us adults to change times but my Autistic sons

little body just refused.

I was able to find liquid melatonin and starting giving him a small

dose in his juice. And my house is so much quieter now. Even before

all the changes I usually had to read 3 or 4 stories and lay in the

bed with him until he would finally doze off. If I didn't he would

scream and cry. Now he just goes in and goes to sleep.

Thanks so much for the info on using melatonin.

I do have one question though. For those that have used it. Once the

child gets used to the routine, do we stay on the same dose or do we

cut back the dosage some, or stop altogether.

Any advice would be very appreciated.

thanks

Beth

Once he is used to the time change you shouldn't need it every night. I only

use it on nights I know my son will have trouble getting to sleep, or if his

sleep patterns have been interrupted e.g., sick and slept alot thriugh the

day, etc. I don't taper the dose, I just use it when I need it. He weighs

55# and usually 1.5 mg is enough for him, occasionally I use 3 mg.
