Guest guest
I saw my therapist this weekend, who is a specialist in the field of bariatric surgery. She had just returned from a convention where she sat in on a half-day seminar regarding pregnancy after WLS. She's very concerned for the well-being of my baby right now. I'm in my 14th week and am 3 months post-op. I've been battling a great deal of nausea and have been only able to consume around 500-800 calories of food a day. I'm in the process of changing OBs because my surgeon, my nutritionist, and my therapist don't think my current OB understands the needs of a newly post-op WLS patient who is also pregnant. I've had one ultrasound and only 2 appointments with the OB. My surgeon finds this unacceptable, especially since he took the time to write a 6 page letter to my OB to help them better understand what my body is going through. So, I'm a bit worried. In my therapist's seminar, of the 4 women studied post-op, all of them were at least 5 months out and consuming between 1200-1500 calories a day. Of the 4 women, 3 had successful pregnancies, but one of them had a very sick baby. My therapist is concerned that I'm going to have a sick baby. She even said to me, " I wouldn't buy anything for the baby until the end, because you may not have a healthy baby. " She's also concerned that I've lost 23# since the end of May when I first saw the OB. So, I would love to hear some words of encouragement from the ladies on this board who have had healthy babies. What was your caloric intake? How much protein were you able to get in early (with or without morning sickness)? How much weight did you lose during your first trimester? Did the weight loss trickle off after the first trimester? Anything that anyone could say would be really helpful!
