Guest guest
Tia, Great to hear from you! I know what you mean... Zoe was without the shoes for a few days when she hurt her foot. It was hard to get her to cooperate. Also, after awhile she wouldn't cooperate again. I think the shoes were getting too small. Just like when she resisted brushing her teeth, I try to explain very simply that they will get rotten if we don't brush. If that doesn't work, I say that the dentist needs her to brush. this usually works. When she started fighting the shoes or asking to have them taken off in the middle of the night, I would just remind her that Dr. Herzenberg told me they have to stay on for a " few more months " or something " until your birthday " . It's hard because they don't have a sense of time and there's no definite date when you know they'll come off! She knows that she was born with a clubfoot, but the doctors fixed it with casts. I just told her that if she doesn't wear the shoes, her foot could get crooked again. I try to tell her before she gets too upset. When they're having a fit, they can't really hear what you're saying, know what I mean? Anyway, as always, when they're having difficulty with the shoes, it's important to make sure the shoes are not too small, the bar is not too short and there isn't some other typical developmental issue going on, like teething, learning a new skill, nightmares, growth spurts, etc. or a change in the routine (new sibling, move, starting preschool or daycare). There are just so many factors that can interfere with their sleeping! If Zoe doesn't eat enough dinner or drinks too much water during the night, she'll wake up early. If she doesn't have a blanket on, she wakes up early. Lately she needs the light on to fall asleep. Just my 2 1/2 cents, hope this hellps!!! Joanne W.
