Guest guest
Does anyone have a good homeopathic or other remedy for a nagging cough that is lasting long after the sinus infection has been treated? Cough is producing a clear sputum, so no evidence of infection still being a big problem. Dry winter is the biggest problem. Thanks,
Guest guest
Slice/chip 2 onions in a large pan, cover with honey, place over low heat for a couple of hours - do not boil. Strain and use. You can add licorice root powder, or horehound or wild cherry bark to the mix before heating if desired/available. The herbs are good expectorants (help you cough up the mucous in the lungs). Keep in the refrigerator. It should last for several months. This onion syrup can be quite strong. Reduce the amount of onion if for a small child as if the taste is too strong, you might not get it down them. I've made it with very little onion and mostly licorice for my kids. Another option is to allow them to chew on a small amount of licorice oot - not licorice candy which is usually made with anise. However, this only works with older kids. Tastes like licorice so it isn't a taste issue, but they need to chew on it not swallow it. I sometimes give this to people who work for me and it clears up coughs in a day or two. It won't hurt you if you swallow it but it won't help the cough/sore throat as quickly. Licorice root has a range of properties and helps fight infection so swallowing it works, but takes longer.
