Guest guest
I am now ready to start chelating my son. I will give DMSA every 4 hours, 3 days on, 11 days off. My son is 7 years old and weighs 35lbs (yes, I know, he is a skinny wretch). What is a reasonable dose of DMSA? The smallest capsules I can get from my doctor is 25 mg. Is this too large a dose? In your case, 25 mg is a bit too much -- 1/2 mg per pound would be 17.5 mg per dose (that is the high end of the range). (low end of range, 1/8 mg per lb, is only 4.5 mg per dose!) If you used 1/2 of a 25 mg capsule for each dose, that would be 12.5 mg per dose -- that would be within the range, still toward the higher part of the range. If you used 1/3 or 1/4 of a capsule per dose, you would ALSO be in the range--- a little lower. hope this helps, Moria
Guest guest
If you are seeing side affects (which you are) then you might want to condier lowering your dose. I believe Andy recommends 1/4 to 1/2 mg. per pound of body weight. In your case that would be 11.5 mg - 23 mg. at each 3-hour dosing. I believe the maximum dose he recommends is 1 mg. per pound. I would suggest you start at a low dose and after it appears he is tolerating that, then move up if you want. We all want to get it out ASAP, but that's when we run into problems. Regards, kw [ ] DMSA dosage 6-year-old, ASD, weight 46 lbs. We have just completed round #2 of DMSA. We are using 50 mgs/4 hours, 2.6 days on, 11 days off. On days are every other weekend from 3 p.m. Friday to 7 a.m. Monday. Our Doctor's Data results shows lead red lined after round #1. Good. The actual result is 2.71 mg/kg on a reference range of <.5 We are seeing small, but perceptible improvements in behavior and cognition. For example, he can turn on the VCR now. That's new since DMSA started. His eye contact is much higher. Good, good, good. Side-effects: sleep disturbances after round #1 (up at 1 am for the whole day on Monday at the end of round #1, up at 5 a.m. for the rest of the day on 3 or 4 subsequent mornings. Added olive leaf extract. No more sleep problems.) No side-effects after round #2. I see that the new consensus on the DAN! protocol has come out recently (I know I'm not doing DAN!, but Andy). The DAN! protocol is no more than 10mg/kg of weight per 8 hours dose and no more than 30mg/kg per day. This dosage is much higher than what Andy recommends. My questions: Is Andy's dosage recommendation based upon personal experience with dosing himself (an obvious experience with others following or not following his protocol)? What is the scientific reason that Andy's dosage is much less than the DAN! recommendation? Our doctor prescribed 250 mgs/8 hours. Obviously, that's high, even by DAN! standards. We are following Andy's much more conservation advice for safety reasons. I am anxious, of course, to get the lead out ASAP. I'm prepared to go as long as it takes and 2 years sounds like the time frame. Final, question: How am I to judge between the higher DAN! dosage and Andy's dosage or somewhere in between? P.S. I greatly respect your opinions. I am simply asking the epistomological question: How am I to decide rationally? =======================================================
Guest guest
, You start low and move up. Many of us have never gone as high as the Dan protocol because we could see that the side effects weren't worth it. If you read Andy's past comments on this, you understand that higher doses don't pull that much more mercury. Plus chelating is hard on the body. From personal experience around our house, some rounds make people really tired! If you want your child to " hang in there " long enough to get things out, go low and slow. Some moms have found that their heavily-poisoned kids could only tolerate very low doses at first, and eventually, as the mercury started to leave, they could tolerate a little more. This is a marathon, not a sprint. Do what you can to help your child deal with it.
