Guest guest
> What is the experience of others as regards swivel chairs? (Mine > doesn't have arm rests.) I used my swivel computer chair from two weeks post-op (I was in England until then, so didn't have an opportunity to test one there). But I did find that using my rear end and feet to push the chair from one side of the office to the other (to scoot back and forth between my computer and my desk two metres opposite it [to answer the phone on the desk, for example], as I do quite often) was not a good idea during the first six weeks or so. It was better to push off from the desk with my hands while lifting my feet off the ground, and then lower my good foot to brake the rolling chair. As you can tell, I was too lazy to get the crutch, get up and walk across the room while dragging the chair with me, etc... I also set the chair very high so I could stretch out the operated leg. And my chair doesn't have any arm rests either. I found that sitting at the computer for more than about 45 minutes at a stretch was quite uncomfortable at first, but now at 8.5 weeks, I can be on it for over two hours without noticing any irritations at all. Now I have to remind myself to get up and change position more often, so that other muscles such as the piriformus don't get into trouble. n rBHR Oct.17/03 McMinn
