Guest guest
I have had my neurologist appt. this morning and it went fairly well. We discussed my issues with depression and she feels strongly that the depression I am suffering is from non other than the topomax itself. This because the depression gets worse when I increase doses etc. She said that this is not a common side effect of the drug, but that it is a side effect and that she would not start an antidepressant when teh depression is caused from antoher drug. We decided to stick with topomax for another month hoping the depression continues to level out as my body adjusts to the new doses, unless the depression becomes severe over the next increase at which time we will stop the drug right away and switch to something else for seizure control. I somehow feel very validated to know the depression is caused by the topomax and I at least have a reason for how I have been feeling and whats been going on. She will increase the CellCept again and add one of three other drugs after she reviews the three, until I return to Kuwait and begin my Cytoxen treatments. Who knows maybe the combination fo the three will make it unnecessary for me to begin the Cytoxen. Wouldnt that be wonderful? They both assure me this is a temporary fix and I should not consider this long term therapy to replace the cytoxen therapy. She is to call me next week with the decision about which drug to begin. I am slightly perturbed about this because if there were other drugs to add to cellcept all this time WHY DIDNT THEY SAY SO BEFORE? I have been postponing Cytoxen for months and suffering all the while! They acted like this was my only option. When I saw the specialist a couple weeks ago, he mentioned several other drugs that I could add since I was being stubborn about starting Cytoxen, though he had little faith in them. I would have liked to be given these options months ago. She prescribed physical therapy AGAIN, I have put off going before, but will go this time, and Duragesic pain patches, which i havent used before, but am trying to avoid taking pain medications for my lower back and spine and neck. I will also have a spinal and angiograph the week after next. I am being a good patient and very cooperative. My last MRI was not good at all, indicating disease progression, despite the current treatment I am. I am tired from the entire thing. Guest guest
Matt Thanks for the information, I will keep this name in mind and ask the Dr about at my next appt if things dont straighten out by then, I see her in three weeks again. I agree with her about giving one med time to sort out before adding others. I remember when I was first sick my Dr adding , starting, stopping, increasing , decreasing everything at one time and he had me totally wacko I tell you. I actually screamed at him one day "what do you expect when you change so many variables at one time, how are you supposed to know whats causing what?!". There was no way to know what was disease and what was drug and what was what drug and what was drug interaction as far as I could tell. He managed to sort it out in the end, but not without putting me through you know what first for quite a long time. She makes sense to me to say she would change the topomax to another drug instead of treating its side effect with another drug. We decided on another med to take the place of topomax should we need to and I am going to call her right away if things take a turn for the worse, y ou guys can tell me if I start sounding worse. I have been feeling better the past couple weeks. But I am increasing the topomax again starting today. We will see what happens. It is an antidepressent that tends to do well with other meds, with little side effect problems. Hope this helps- Matt __________________________________ Discover Yahoo!
