For those of you who are interested: This is Dr. P's reply to my questions. I

have already asked our Ped for a referral as suggested by Dr. P. I'll share

those results when we finally are able to see someone. Our next appt with Dr.

Ballock, our ortho, is on Aug 20th.

We'll try the tickling and such when she has her shoes off this evening. For

the record her other toes do not ever come up like her big toe.

Dear Dr. Ponseti,

Thank you so much for calling me several months ago when I first wrote about

my daughter's club feet. We did switch Dr's when she finally was released from

the NICU and Dr. Ballock has been seeing her since. We also have been happy you

referred us for a pair of shoes for her and now I think it was

providence before we realized we really needed them.

I've noted several things that are unusual about her foot/feet and I wondered

if you might comment on them and perhaps give me some advice I can share with

Dr. Ballock regarding her future care. As you can see in the attached pictures

her feet seem to still rest on the edge when I try to stand her on them. (She

will not bear weight on them at this time unless her shoes are on.) I think

this might be pronounced because of her unusual big toe but I just wanted to be

sure it's not an indication that we have another problem developing. Is this

normal? Is it normal for her big toe to be sticking up like that? You may also

note that her toenails are quite small and some are very hard to see. Is this

normal? Her foot/feet seem fat - will this lessen as she learns to walk? Her

little toes seem to sit sideways. Is this normal? She seems to tuck her toes

under her feet now and then, is this normal? Will the extra folds of skin

eventually even out around her ankle? Her feet were very stiff before

correction. I do believe they are corrected but when we take her shoes off they

do start to turn in just the slightest if there is no pressure. Is this normal?

Will there be a problem removing her shoes for a few hours a day when her 3+ mos

are up? What do I need to be watching for regarding a relapse of her unusual

feet? Does she have some version of atypical club feet that may require

more/different care? Should I keep her in the shoes after she outgrows

the pair she has?

Thanks for answering these and any other things that may come to mind. If you

need further info, please feel free to ask.

Respectfully,

Ward
