Dear Helen,

I know a lot of us have problems with our arms falling asleep if they are

bent more then waist level. Can't say anyones figured out a way to stop it -

sorry.

You mention deQuervian's and carpel tunnel so I assume you have had the

tests done. The first one is a very easy surgical fix. I have had both thumbs

done and am MUCH happier! I also have the latter but it comes and goes depending

on what nerves are pinched or not at any given time due to stuff moving around

in there. I mention getting the tests cause what you may think is carpel might

be a different nerve pinch. It might even be that the inflammed tendon from the

dequervians is irritating a nerve and hence causing carpel like symptoms.

If you haven't already you may want to get an ECG (? nerve conduction test)

done from the neck down both arms to see if nerves are constricted anywhere

else. I have had the ulnar (funny bone nerve) released in an elbow but I still

have problems with bent arms going numb. I know I have nerve probs in the neck

and shoulder which is where I'm sure this is coming from.

I see Mike basically asked the same questions :-)

I now see your response to him. Get thee to an ortho or a rheumy. They will

check to see whats really going on. From what I've read a " physiatrist " function

is to restore functioning - like a physical therapist. They are the ones you see

after you've been dx'd and any surgical stuff has been done

http://www.aapmr.org/condtreat/what.htm . You need to be specifically dx'd and

find out if there are any easy fixes. You may not be having to go through all

this suffering! Your symptoms do sound like a nerve is pinched somewhere and the

way to really tell where is the nerve conduction test.

Hope we help some!

Hugs,

B.
