Guest guest
Hi! There are a few things that can cause the foot to not stay in the DBB. The main ones are not getting the shoes on quite right, particularly not getting the heel down all the way, a foot that is not fully corrected, and atypical clubfoot which is a clubfoot that does not behave the way most do and often is uncorrected even though the doctor thinks that it is. Dr Ponseti will no doubt tell you more about all of this. In the mean time, can you tell us where you are and what doctor you see? Angel I am new! I am new to the group. My daughter, , is 5 months old and has bilateral clubfoot. My biggest concern now is we had to go to the AFO's because the DBB would not stay on her feet. I guess Dr. Ponseti doesn't recommend them so I left him an email. I hope he responds soon. They were very expensive and we are having a hard time getting insurance to pay. Ultimately, I want my daughters feet to be corrected the best way.
Guest guest
I'm sorry I didn't introduce myself. My name is and my daughter is (5months). We (and husband and big brother Austin) live in Northern Virginia outside Washington DC. There is only 1 Pediatric Ortho in this entire area, believe it or not. His name is Dr. Hanway. He practices the Ponseti method. We think we got her heal down all the way in the shoe because that was one of the first things he mentioned. We used vice grips to also get the strap super tight (I know that sounds aweful). And she would still slip her feet out. (Houdini). The doc says her feet look great, but what do we know and what do we have to compare it to? I sent Dr. Ponseti an email. I will let you know his response. Guest guest
Have you seen photos of other corrected feet? You can look in the photos section to find pictures of corrected feet (someone help me out here!) Does your daughter's foot look normal to you? The shoes are quite expensive, but they are effective in stopping the Houdini act. That is part of what they were designed for ;-) I am sure you have heard that the AFO does not sufficiently hold correction. That is because it cannot hold the foot in an external rotation like the DBB can. The Brace is shoes attached to a bar, and they work in a similar manner as the normal DBB, it is just the shoes have been redesigned. Angel Re: I am new! I'm sorry I didn't introduce myself. Guest guest
Hi , Welcome to the board My daughter,, is now seeing a second doctor at 10.5 months old because her foot was not fully corrected the first time. The first doctor thought her foot looked good too. But our second opinion was with Dr. Herzenberg in Baltimore and he has made great progress with her foot in just three weeks of casting! I don't know how far of a drive Baltimore is from Vienna but I suggest making the trip to get a second opinion from him if you can. He is wonderful and his reputation is the *BEST* on the East Coast! I am learning very quickly from other moms on this board that second opinions are worth a LOT and sometimes can mean the difference between a corrected foot or not. never had any problems with the DBB so I can't give advice in that department.
