High amonia level/ketoglutaric acid

Hello My son blood test for amonia came back very high 45 the first

time and 71 the second time normal range [3-37].

I have read that you need to supplement B6, amino acid, and alpha

ketoglutaric and have a low carb diet is that right?

My sun amino acid came back low for these: citruline, tyrosine,

orthinine, carnosine, arginine.

Should I supplement in amino acid only or give him amino acid and

some alpha ketoglutaric acid?.

I am getting very confused here

Actually high proteins may cause high ammonia. An opinion here (not

medical advice) is to add arginine to help remove the ammonia.

Should I stop the ketoglutaric, he is getting 300mg/day. I also give

him amno acid complex their is 18 mg of arginine in it. Is that

enough? HE weigh 50 pounds.

How about bicarbonate?

WHAt is bytrate?

We did a orotic acid test and it came back negative

He is eating a lot of protein he is on the GFCF diet.

Just to give you an idea, my son is 24 pounds, I give him 1000 mg (1

gram!) of arginine per day, but he tested very very low on the amino

acids test.

My opinion is to be effective in lowering ammonia you need between 500mg

and 1 gram daily. But don't do this forever, you need to retest to see

if the levels of ammonia are going down and second to make sure you're

not overdoing the arginine.
