I was given an antidepressant and was told this would help. For some reason for several years until March of 1999, I was almost pain free. Then all of a sudden I woke up one morning and felt like I was 100 years old. I could barely walk, and every part of my body ached. I went to my doctor, and he performed the pressure point test to determine how many applied. Almost all of them. He said you have FMS. He prescribed antidepressants and said this would help. I hate to say it, but they do not help and I stopped taking them. I could barely function through the day. I feel since I was not depressed these drugs only made things worse, and when you can't function during the day then how can you do your work? I did, however, find that if I followed the Dr. Atkins Diet of Low Carb and high protein that my pain would disappear and my energy level went through the roof. Well since I have other problems that are related to FMS, such as irritable bowel and sinus headaches, my doctor decided to try a different drug. This drug is an anti seizure medication. He put me on 50mg at night. The first night I took the drug I slept for 23 hours, no lie. Thank goodness I was on vacation, because there would be no way to go to work. I immediately stopped taking those too. I'm sorry but taking medication that is not specifically for FMS is not the solution. At least not for me. I was even angry at the Dateline show that showed the worse case scenario on FMS, wrote to them, and said so. What about those of us that have found solutions to pain and living with this without being doped up and being able to live instead of giving in to the pain and fatigue? I refuse to give in to it and would rather follow diets that help boost your energy and let you live your life instead of barely making it through the day. If you are taking antidepressants or other medications for FMS and you can barely make it through the day, then I suggest looking for alternatives because that is not the way I want to live my life.
