Guest guest
Maybe there is NOTHING else you can do and you NEED to be on insulin. It might be the drug that you need. If you had a heart attack and your doctor told you to take Plavix, would you hesitate? If you had anemia and your doctor told you to take an iron supplement, would you hesitate? What about AIDS or other life threatening diseases? Would you hesitate in taking the medication that your doctor said you needed to save your life, your kidneys, your eyes, to keep your feet and legs? Just because some people with some types of diabetes can control it for some amount of time using diet and exercise does NOT mean you can, nor does it mean you are a failure if you can't. Guest guest
: I am also taking 2000 mg metformin daily. My doctor has me test first thing in morming and two hours after dinner. I took a few days and tested two hours after every meal to see how food I ate was affecting my bg readings. Then I took a few days and tested before every meal to see how low I was getting before eating. I learned alot about how food changed by readings and how I felt when I was getting too low. I am new at this, like you, just stumbling aroung trying to find my way. Ha. Keep reading, testing, changing your diet, exercise if you can, and you will get in control. I am certain some of the more experienced in the group can help you more than me. I also eat low fat protein, low glycemic vegs (spinach, broccoli, lettuce) small amount of fruit. I can't eat rice, pasta, bread, too high in carbs. They make my BG high. If I understand it right diabetes is about averages. You want your average to be in range with what your doctor recommended. Trying to help....
