I have been in the same situation with a friend who had gotten " in

trouble " . We moved to a new house with room enough for her and her

baby with the understanding that she would have chores and that she

would contribute her food stamps toward the household expenses. And that

she continue college That was all that was expected.

Eventually, she started slacking off on her chores and then she didn't

get her food stamps renewed. Finally we had to tell her that is was

time to move on and get her own apartment.

I know this is more like a parent child situation but I think if you are

supporting someone then they are asking for a parent.

Two weeks ago a got accepted in to a Radiological Tech program. Out

of 250 applicant they took 9. I have never been so proud. I told her

she needed to send thank you notes to the folks who interviewed. A few

days later she came by with a Thank You note. It was for me. She was

thanking me for giving her a chance and for kicking her out. She says

she needed to get out and make it on her own, otherwise she would not

have had the confidence to get her BS in Biology and get into the RT

program. I swear I have never felt so my pride.

So throwing your friends out doesn't make you a bad guy. It makes you

someone who cares enough about them and your friendship to put a stop to

a ugly situation.

Good luck. It was one of the hardest things I have ever done.

, this is very good advice......sometimes the people you help tend to become compalacent........it takes a good boot in the butt to get them going again!

I'm glad your friend had you when she needed help......and I'm glad you had the good sense to know when enough is enough

The fact that she came back to thank you is a compliment to you and herself!
