Guest guest
My severely autistic 5 year old was exposed to strep throat last week. He is acting out violently this weekend, attacking me and his siblings, and lots of very hard head banging. He does not have a fever or any other symptoms besides a mild cough. I gave extra C and B vits plus his usual calcium, mag, & EFAs, but this was not enough, and I gave him ibuprofin and dye-free benedryl which helped a great deal. I am taking him to the ped tomorrow. She does not prescribe antibiotics unless she thinks they are truly needed, and she is always open to waiting a day or three to see if the child will recover on his own. I generally use homeopathy during this waiting period and only 1 of my 3 children has ever ended up needing the antibiotics. What happens tomorrow if a strep test should come back positive? Can I do this as usual? What about school? If he's not running a fever is he still contagious? I won't send him if he's being aggressive like this but he really has no other symptoms except the bit of cough. I don't know what remedy to use for strep but I can look it up, or I could use colloidal silver, but I'm not sure how c.s. would affect his gut. I've only used it topically. He does have yeast, which is currently fairly well controlled. What else could I use? Is there a " safest " antibiotic? We do have a homeopath but it is difficult to get in with him right away - if I get in the same week I am doing well. He focuses more on chronic illness. Thanks very much, -Sara. Guest guest
-I would try Lauricidin. Go to www.lauricidin.com and read about it. It specifically mentions strep. (we are using it for yeast/viral issues here) Patti -- In , " The Byk Family " <thebyks@w...> wrote: > My severely autistic 5 year old was exposed to strep throat last week. So far as I know, strep is viral, not bacterial. Altho perhaps it can result in a secondary bacterial infection? Try anti-virals like olive leaf extract and Lauricidin. Strep can lead to PANDAS http://intramural.nimh.nih.gov/research/pdn/web.htm Dana
Guest guest
Check with your homeopath about this but when my 3 1/2 year old (typical) dtr had strep last spring we gave her some oxygen drops to the back of her throat. A product called OxyBoost. Maybe with everything else it can kick it! Guest guest
Thanks very much to all who replied to me, onlist and privately. I very much appreciate all the suggestions and felt I was prepared going in to this dr appt. Fortunately does NOT have strep and is doing much better today. He still has a bit of a loose cough but it's better, and he's not head-banging or squeezing his nose anymore. His dr & I believe he was reacting to sinus pressure & pain. I continued the motrin and benedryl as well as extra C and B vits. Last night I could not get the meds into him but his behavior was OK - not great but not out of control - and he fell asleep early, on his own, and slept through. YAY! I gave him some motrin this morning at school & hopefully that will hold him through the day, and then I'll see whether he needs it any more this afternoon. Phew! Thanks again.
