Guest guest
To the one wondering about how the Shriners work the " donations " for transportation..... I have been traveling to and from Shriners Hospitals for almost 7 years now, both in Canada and here in the States. I onced asked my Hospital Chairman (from Winnipeg, Canada) how the different Shrines work with transport as I had met may people at the Shriners Hospital, Montreal Unit who had to pay there own way from places like Texas to get up to Montreal Canada. ( At the time that was the only hospital doing a drug therapy study on kids with a brittle bone disorder that all of my children also have.) The chairman explained that his Shrine was able to pay all the transportation, hotel and food costs for their patients because they only had about 150 children they took " care " of. Where as other Shrines, especially in some of the larger areas of the States, would have a smaller local Shrine yet they would service over 1500 kids and their travel needs. So basiclly it comes down to donations and area served. So, as someone who values the free health care, request family, friends and strangers to donate to their local Shrine. Get the word out. Tell your local newspaper about what they are doing for you. We did just that and got on the front page of our local paper just a few months ago. The woman writing the artical was floored that there was an organization that did this for us. She had never HEARD of them before! Here is the link to the artical. Sorry, the great picture of my husband holding my 6 year old upside down is not included at this link. http://www.nwanews.com/leader/story_news.php?storyid=6273 and Shalom lemikha@...> wrote: I am so sorry you had so much trouble with that man. When we signed up for the shriners hospital. The hospital did everything and hooked us up with the proper shrine. We didn't do anything. I told them I would be driving myself but they did not offer us money or vouchers like they did pam. Lord I know that would be good. Pam do you get paid for gas everytime? We have paid for gas ourselves every single time. I have a question. If you are wanting to go to childrens hospital anyway, you would drive there right? Why do you need to be driven to shriners? I am just trying to understand, maybe I read your post wrong. I have only good things to say about St.Louis Shriners hospital. The people have always been nice to me, the shriners there have been nice to me and my children all 3 of them always walk out of that hospital with a new stuffed animal every time. I will never choose to go to another place unless Dr.Dobbs don't go there anymore. Please don't let one idiot,( sorry for being mean but he was) make you turn against the hospital because trust me they aren't all like that.
