Guest guest
Most likely the sibling is also toxic and the thing to do is detox, not torment them with mainstream medical testing that leads to refusal of any effective treatment. The probability of this with no other information than what you provide is in excess of 75%. Andy . . . . . . . . .. > Has anyone had a nt sibling have a delay in making speech sounds? Guest guest
My oldest son (NT almost 18yo) had delayed speech. He was very hard to understand. He did not get speech therapy (it's hard enough to come by if you have a dx here!). His speech did develop ok but he has always had problems with the " th " sounds. I imagine if he'd had speech therapy there'd have been no more problems. It's such a hard call to make. His speech developed fine and his younger brother, ASD, who the doctor kept saying " relax mom, he'll talk eventually " , is now 16yo and still non-verbal. I'd keep up the speech therapy. Guest guest
I once read that pediatrics is one of the worst thing that happened to our kids and I believe it. > > Has anyone had a nt sibling have a delay in making speech sounds? Guest guest
Let me provide a bit more info. He has had chronic diarrhea and red cheeks and ears. Thanks for your response. How does mercury effect the muscles in your tongue that are used to make these sounds? > Most likely the sibling is also toxic and the thing to do is detox, not > torment them with mainstream medical testing that leads to refusal of > any effective treatment. > > The probability of this with no other information than what you provide > is in excess of 75%. > > Andy . . . . . . . . .. > > > Has anyone had a nt sibling have a delay in making speech sounds? Guest guest
>>>>> His speech did develop ok but he has always had problems with the " th " sounds. How is the therapist helping him learn these sounds? Is she/he telling the child where to put his tongue physically in his mouth? When learning different languages, some people can copy the sounds easily but other need to be told where to put the tongue, when to breathe out to force air to make sounds, how to position the lips, etc. Sort of mechanically taking the sound-making process apart and instructing on technique. I was one of the literal learners and this was really important to me, although other people seemed to catch on by osmosis. See if telling him exactly the position of tongue helps. He might not understand how to make the sound. On the flip side, he might not yet be distiguishing between sounds heard. So he doesn't 'hear' the th as a unique sound. For example, there are some sounds used in foreign languages that I can't tell the difference in by hearing. I am not used to distinguishing some 'letters' of other alphabets because we don't have those sounds in English in language. What is a meaningful letter in Arabic sounds like throat clearing to me...and they have 2 or 3 distinct throat sounds! Or like the African languages that have different clicking sounds as letters. . Guest guest
Have you tried any interventions with him, like diet, supps, etc? My 17 mo old daughter has a delay as well, but none of the other stuff. Seems to have a very, very slight delay in language comprehension, a larger one in expressive, but everything else, diet, sensory, pretend skills, social interaction, etc, is fine. I do only allow small amounts of dairy and slightly more wheat in her diet. If Dinah develops any diarrhea, I'm slapping her full-fledged gfcf for a time. Debi > Let me provide a bit more info. Guest guest
, My son started therapy through Early Intervention when he was 27 months old. At that time, my daughter was 14 months old. When she was 17 months old and rarely said, " Mama " I had her evaluated and she too started Speech and Occupational Therapy (mild Hypotonia). I also added one Pro-EFA (Nordic Naturals) per day to her diet in addition to her multiple vitamin/mineral supplement. Thirteen months later she is talking at an above-age appropriate level for expressive and receptive language. I'm glad I didn't take the " wait and see " approach that cost my son one year of valuable therapy services with her. I highly recommend the essential fatty acids as they too have been beneficial (more noticeably with my son than with my daughter). -KIM [ ] sibling(3 years) of Asperger hard to understand Has anyone had a nt sibling have a delay in making speech sounds? Guest guest
I thought about EFAs. I am definately going to add that. We have been using Carlson's fish oii for my daugher who seems to me recovered at least for the last 4 days. She got a homoepathic remedy and now a cold. We will see. Thanks for the your reply! > , > > My son started therapy through Early Intervention when he was 27 months old. At that time, my daughter was 14 months old. Guest guest
i was slow to learn to speak, its just a developmental delay and either you have the only nt kid in america or he is on spectrum. thsi is what as used to be like before vaccines same issues but milder and adaptive delays but getting there. i would look at digestive issues etc. > Has anyone had a nt sibling have a delay in making speech sounds? Guest guest
We do SCD and no supps. His stools are firming up and he only has one a day. There are cognitive delays he is just hard to understand. He is not making certain speech sounds and subsitutes speech sounds. > > Let me provide a bit more info. Guest guest
anna, I don't know exactly how the mercury affects the speech, but it does. Did anyone put the link to the Geier study-- the one that found a correlation between thimerosal and ASD, speech disorders, and heart problems? I can say as an SLP that the number of kids with apraxic-types of problems has increased along with the rise in ASD. Many of the kids with these problems also have smatterings of characteristics that are seen in other " disorders " . WHy it affects some kids in the speech realm whereas others have sensory problems, and others are full blown autism, I do not know. Individual differences, timing of the exposure, amount of exposure, genetic differences, I don't know. In addition to the advice you're already getting, I don't know if anyone has mentioned looking into the apraxia board--it's a good one for finding out more about how EFA's can help. Also reading The LCP Solution can help, too. Guest guest
Probability of mercury problems reasonably high. > Let me provide a bit more info. How does mercury effect > the muscles in your tongue that are used to make these sounds? Paresthesias and poor coordination of the mouth and tongue are classic signs of mercury intoxication, described in all older textbooks which were written by real doctors who figured things out clnically and had seen actual cases. . . .. . . . . . . . .. . . . . >

Guest guest
My daughter is now 4 1/4 years old. When she was 18 m.o. she was covered by part C for language for one year ; she had no language and speech at all.(she passed their screening at 30 months). I do want to say that while her connectedspeech is sometimes hard for others to understand (I still translate for her often), her language and pragmatics are phenomenal. She is really advanced for age in all areas. (OT--when I don't understand what she is saying, she spells it for me LOL) When she was two, I really worried about her language delays. God luck...I hope yours becomes a story like this one. Robin
Guest guest
well scd needs modification to be successful. i find whey very important and even am tolerating cows milk provided it is drunk warm nuts flours are not that digestiable. you need mineral supplementation esp optizinc and mag taurate touch of allergy a and d every now and then helps to molybdenum will help doing well on scd can be an indicator of lead problems, do u have a hair test? > > > Has anyone had a nt sibling have a delay in making speech > sounds? > > We > > > are doing speech therapy is there something else? Guest guest
No, we have not done one. Needless to say treating a 5 year(w/ an asperger diagnosis) is expensive. I suppose we need one. I never expected that raising kids would be like this... What is your souce of whey? Where do you get it? Why do you feel it is helping? Have you tried homeopathy? > > > > Has anyone had a nt sibling have a delay in making speech > > sounds? > > > We > > > > are doing speech therapy is there something else? He did test high for yeast. We did GSE and it caused more bad diarrhea. Is this a die off reaction or is he not tolerating the GSE? SCD would say that the yeast will come in line in time with the controlling of bacteria??? He does seem to tolerate fruits a lot better. They do not cause loose stools like before SCD. > > > > We do SCD and no supps. His stools are firming up and he only has > > one a day. Guest guest
, in addition to pursuing the biomed treatments for him, just know that you can also have him screened by the local school district to see if he qualifies for any speech therapy to be provided by them at no cost to you. During the fourth year of age, a child should be easily understood by others, although there may be just a few sounds in error. So a lot can happen between three and four, but if you are wondering if it is still within the normal range of development, or if it's significantly behind, then just call the local special education or special services department for the school district and ask how do you go about having him screened for articulation/phonological development with an SLP. Guest guest
you need a hair test. $ for information it doesn't get better. you should be able to get whey from health stores, i am using plain whey which is not expensive at all but something llike immunocal may also be ok(though expensive) see my web page on compendium on whey. i donlt feel it is helping. i can see it is making huge improvements. hmomoepathy seem to be varied in its meaning and i don't want to get into a debate on what it is. the notion of ultra dilution is rubbish. > No, we have not done one.
