My doc has not suggested prednisone for it and I'd resist if he did. It seems pretty drastic. Have you tried allergy medicine (like Claritin)? It has helped me with the hives and some sun reactions. I would go see a dermatologist if you haven't already. Once you can get it under control, be diligent with lotions, sunscreens and the allergy meds.
