Guest guest
Hi .. I have 6 sons and a married daughter. You're so right. All kids are different. They mature at different rates, and have different plans for school, marriage, and work. A couple of the boys have come and gone more than once, though two of them bought a home a few weeks ago. I don't mind them living at home at all, and miss the ones who have moved. It is quieter, though..and the grocery bill isn't $400 a week anymore, lol! I'm very close to my daughter. Had she not married, she would still be at home when not at school. She lives in town, about an hour from here, but visits often. Physically we share a lot, and are each other's support. Growing up, they didn't know what was wrong with me. I had repeated surgeries that all failed..and was told that I wouldn't pass it on, whatever " it " was. I'm glad I have a name for it, and have counseled the kids not to have surgery unless it's unavoidable, and shown them how to care for dislocations. Things have changed for the better, but there are still far too many MDs who don't know much about EDS. One son had open heart surgery, another part of a lung removed..both as infants. It's always interesting to compare notes with others, and this List is a great example of something the NET is good for. I know it's hard having a child with health issues..the one with lung problems also had a non-functioning immune system for 2yrs after I stopped nursing. I can't count the times he was in the hospital. I've also sat bedside, planning a funeral in my mind. I learned just how precious every moment is. We are our childrens' advocates in the health care system..It's important to show them how to handle MDs, and those receptionists, lol..because when they're 18 the doctors stop talking to parents! Like the kids can handle it all on their own! Hopefully our children and grandchildren will have an easier time than many of us have had finding good doctors.
