Guest guest
forgot to mention. COQ10 is very concentrated in cardiac muscle and many drugs can deplete COQ10 including statins as far as i know, and COQ10 is supposed to have natural anti arrythimic properties FYI leighanne

Guest guest
Hi, Janet. I, too, have a very rapid HR - often up in the 130s, if I do not take Atenolol (a beta-blocker) to slow it down. It started with the Lyme almost 4 years ago. I have been on oral ABX for the Lyme pretty much non-stop most of that time, with lots of change-ups in the combinations. Have been thru all the cardiology testing several times. Have a couple of leaky valves, but not bad enough to do something about. Even on the Atenolol I do have occasional bouts of palpitations. They are coming more often this past month, I think because I stopped all ABX to see where I stand after a month of IV Rocephin and treating the LD as well as Bartonella together for 10 months. And I am hypothyroid as well. Maybe Atenolol will work for you, too? A friend of mine also takes it for the same reason.... Good luck, Terri
Guest guest
My heart rate increases with exposure to any virus and if I get on it right away with Virustop 2 x per day on an empty stomach I can usually get through it now. I did 8 months of high dose Virustop last year to try to bring down co-infections. Now, knock on wood, I can get by with dose on exposure if I catch it quickly. > > Hi, > > Has anyone experienced a quickened heart rate from Lyme? Guest guest
I have Hashimoto's disease and I have had many medical issues that caused me to wonder about having Lyme disease. But that is another story. What I'd like to say is that I had unexpectedly developed tacchardia and it was scary. It came out of no where three years ago when I was 44. This is a common disorder for many people caused by various disorders. So keep that in mind. In my case, after an intense work up I was told it was benign. I was even given beta blockers, but my cardiologist said it was not necessary but offered them to give me comfort when I felt a bit fast on certain days. Not a pleasant benign condition - I can assure you of that. It has resolved and at times it acts up depending on some sort of stressor. Like over eating, lack of sleep etc. Sometime I can drink a cup of water to stop an attack since it massages the vagas nerve. My main point is that it can be related to the thyroid and being hypo can sometimes produce hyper symptoms. I know this sounds strange - but it's true. Especially in cases where the hypo state deteriorates and produces a surge of thyroid hormone which actually creates a hyper state. I was on synthroid but switch over to Armour for my thyroid. You should try to determine if it's realted to your medication - that is, getting too much. But blood work as good as it is may not represent what your body is telling you. So first try to get a feeling on if it is realted to you thyroid dosage. Of course you can have both a thyroid and Lyme problem at the same time (as I may have) so it just makes it a bit harder. Lyme can cause heart issues but a good cardiologist should pin point exactly what type of heart condition you have and possible causes. From there you can pursue an approach. No matter what, I would get the thyroid under control. After a good work up, if they indicate it is benign like mine, relax and see if it resolves like mine did over time. At this point I have no real loss of quality of life and it has gotten better over time not worse. Guest guest
Janet: You are not alone there. Fast heart rate (tachycardia), from what I know, is common with Lyme. One week ago, I had a resting heart rate of 96 bpm at my doc's. Before my relapse, my heart rate was 72 bpm. I wish you the best of luck with that as well as your hypothyroidism. -Deron From: Janet Ring <janet.ring@...> Subject: [ ] Fast heart rate Date: Saturday, February 28, 2009, 1:38 PM Hi, Has anyone experienced a quickened heart rate from Lyme? I have mitral valve prolapse, which is not causing my elevated heart rate. My cardiologist is hooking me up to a monitor next week that I'll wear home for 24 hours. My resting heart rate is about 96 bpm and it's gotten up to 111. My LLMD said that it could be that the Lyme or Bartonella is in the connective tissue around my heart. But she told me to definitely get all tests necessary to rule anything else out. So far my thyroid function came back toward hypo thyroid (not hyper, which usually causes anxiety and fast heart rate). I'm taking thyroid medicine for subclinical hypothyroid. I'm curious to know if anyone else has experienced anything like this due to Lyme or Bartonella. Thanks, Janet
Guest guest
Thanks everyone for your input about a high heart rate. To answer one question, I was diagnosed with mitral valve prolapse in the mid '80s. I had what felt like heart " palpitations, " but they were actually extra beats, not missed beats, caused by the MVP. All of this was wrapped up with other symptoms and a " mysterious illness " that my LLMD thinks was my first herx (it was after taking Flagyl for Giardia). Anyway, I have the MVP monitored at regular intervals. About hypothyroid-I take Armour thyroid, but since the rapid heart rate and anxiety attacks started several weeks ago, I stopped taking it. I thought for sure I was hyperthyroid, but I'm not, so I'm going back on the Armour thyroid. I'm sure this will all resolve at some point. I'm going to ask my family doctor about my adrenal glad function and see if she'll order a test for that. Having Lyme is not for sissies, that's for sure. Luckily, there are treatments and we just keep forging ahead. Kudos to all of us. Janet
Guest guest
> > Tachycardia is more commonly a symptom of adrenal distress, though it also occurs in thyroid disorders. Lyme does pretty much the same thing to the adrenal glands that it does to the thyroid. In my husband's case, the intermittant tachycardia turned out to only happen when he was in atrial fibulation. He'd wake up with a racing fast heart rate and pace the house till it slowed down; let this happen off and on for a couple of years before he woke me and said it wasn't stopping this time.Even after stopping his heart and restarting it, they couldn't get the a-fib to stop. Now he takes toprol and things are good (unless he forgets to take it). He was tested for Lyme a couple of years ago, but the doc doesn't know anything about it and used the ELISA, though hubby has had symptoms almost as long as I have. I encourage him to ask for different tests, but ultimately have to wait for him to deal with it. Too many of us have heart symptoms that get written off. All best, in Oregon
