Welcome Judith!

How wonderful that you are interested enough to join us here.

We do toss a lot of information back and forth ... generally about what is

happening to someone at any particular moment. My experience as a newbie was

that I truly got information overload for all the back and forth.

Welcome again and if there is anything in particular that you want to know

just toss it out!

Hi, All,

My name is Judith. I'm new here. Just signed on today. I hope no one

minds that I've joined this list but I just found out about it and want

to learn all I can about EDS. I don't have it myself, although I am

disabled with other mobility and medical issues, but about a year or so

ago, I met an incredible teenager with EDS who is an absolutely awesome

person.

I wish I could meet her in person, but we live too far away from each

other. We have talked by phone and it is a good thing I have unlimited

long distance from the USA to Canada! the 15 minute phone call was

actually about 3 hours!

Anyway, my young friend has the most wonderful outlook on life, and even

when she is in her own pain, if she even thinks I am having pain she

stops everything to cheer me up.

The other most inspiring thing about her is that even while she is

'jumping through the hoops' to get the things other kids get, she keeps

plugging away against all odds and succeeds doing things other people

tell her 'she simply can not do'.

She has turned out to be a marvelous dog trainer and seems to have the

very best instincts of how to handle a dog, make it feel brave, or tone

it down as necessary, isn't scared to take chance with one she doesn't

know after carefully observing and assessing it herself, and best of

all, she's taken a Mini Poodle and has taught it to do wonderful things

to help her out on 'bad' days. But you know what? LOL - they have so

much fun together, they just keep on working together no matter what

kind of day it is.

Anyway, enough about my friend. I'll probably lurk here to learn. If

anyone has any doggie questions feel free to ask or privately email me.

Just be patient for an answer because my days can get as interesting as

yours can! but life goes on

Welcome Judith!

What a friend you are to reach out for more information about a condition

that so affects a friend - you are most welcome here and feel free to jump

in and ask any questions you may have at any time!

I am sure there will be a few here who may want to pick your brain about

service dogs too!

I also wanted to say Wlcome Judith and Rhea sure is a VERY VERY

special girl (I know she has been working with you and Rhea and I are

Cyber Sisters ).

I live in Australia and am training my own service (disability

assistance) dog a 16 month old Norwegian Elkhound bitch who is now

obedience trained and acts as a buffer for me when out. I am haveing

HUGE problems teaching her to retrieve as Elkies are NOT natural

retrievers and she is still young. Any ideas would be greatly

appreciated. I have just started using the Teamwork exercises to

teach her to retrieve and am hoping this comes to her soon as it

would be a HUGE help.

Nice to meet you and BRAVO for taking the time and effort in your own

life to learn about what a friend goes through and how EDS can and

does impact her life.

Rhea is a TRUE INSPIRATION to ANYONE who knows her and all that she

has been through in the last couple of years at such a YOUNG AGE :-<.

Worse luck EDS does NOT have an age limit and many children and young

adults are affected to varying degrees some are having very rough

time (this also depends on the type of EDS they have as there are

numerous types with some VERY scary symptoms).

Nice to meet you Judith and your fur babies.
