Guest guest
So I had the ToD (teacher of the deaf) that works for the county, come in an evaluate Rhiannon before the holidays.. I finally got in touch with her about her findings. I got an earful. Seems like Rhiannon is way ahead of the kids in her program. She seemed almost insulted that I would take up her time to come see Rhiannon since she is 'doing so well' . She used this. This is the for an example... Rhiannon's teacher asked the kids to name a device that helped us. Rhiannon answered, " My hearing aids are a device that help me hear'. She said her kids wouldn't even be able to tell you what a device was. I didn't realize hearing impaired meant mentally slow....but that's how she was describing her HI kids... She also commented on Rhiannon not wearing her hearing aids for 30 or the 60 minutes she observed her. She went on to tell me there was nothing they could do for Rhiannon if she wasn't going to wear her HAs'. I said I would hope the teacher would say something to her if she saw her without them and then I got an earful on how its Rhiannon's responsibility to keep them in...I know this and I wish I could get Rhiannon to wear them all the time...seems like the second she removes them someone spots it! I have spoken to Rhiannon several times about the importance of wearing her hearing aids but they need to recognize she is only eleven and not a responsible eleven at that....SO to sum it up...Rhiannon does not qualify to enter the counties program...but she will make a few suggestions to the teachers in a letter to be read at the SST meeting tomorrow. I'm not sure where we will go from here but I'll keep you posted. Birchfield. XXcrossposted
