But most doctors use the term SVT for something separate -- a hard and rapid, but regular, beat. I've had that since childhood. The ablation for SVT is also an old procedure and supposedly tried and true. I had one and ended up with preventable heart damage. So you need to know how your doctor is using each term. Since a-fib falls in the large grouping called SVT, he may be using it in that way. The other doctor may be using it as a specific type of rhythm as most docs do, but it's hard to know without asking. To me they are different, and to my doctor they are too.
