Guest guest
Robyn, Nice to hear that you have made significant progress over you five weeks. You have to keep in mind that you have a 20% weight restriction. l do not how your weight restriction and the use of the walker may be responsible for your aching. l tried to use the walker, and that thing is not for me, but some other people have no problem using it. lt sounds that you are at where most people are at 5 weeks. The most important is that you follow your doctor to the letter, and your pt will take you to full recovery. You do not seem to have any pain for your other hip, and hopefuly your hip will remain painfree when you will use the cane. l'm 6 weeks tomorrow and l do have pain around the incision and l still find it difficult to sleep on my new hip. I do have some tender spots but nothing that will require using meds. l have also mild numness but not to the point beyond disconfort. I began to walk with 2 canes 2 weeks ago and my old hip began aching + + and it reached down to the ankle, and l use meds every second night to make sure l can rest. I follow my OS and my pt to the letter. I walked with canes one year before my surgery and had some pain with my better hip which is the old one today. I know that my old hip will need to resurfaced on a short to medium term basis, but my OS is most apt to determine what he thinks is best for my old hip. I began driving 10 days after the surgery, without any problem to go for a 2 hour drive at the 3 week mark and l think that the fact l drive a volvo. Its size and ergonomy makes it a lot easier. l have a huge ram wagon, l sate behing the steering and l wont drive it until next year, the ergonomy outragious. My wife has a manual tercel, and had to wait up to the 4th week to be confortable with the clutch. Very good though to strenghten my hip. We read wonderful stories on this board which l have no reason to doubt. Some people seem to heal more quickly than other and l think that it is important that we do not let them distract us.
