Hi everyone,

So...how was your 4th of July celebration?

I was very glad that I planned ahead. I actually stayed away from the

potato salad (which is a shock!).

We shared the 4th with a bunch of friends up at a ranch in Palmer Lake,

Colorado. It was gray and overcast for much of the day, with a little

shower in the afternoon. But there was still a rollicking game of

volleyball and horseshoes, lawn darts, and an unplanned game of " chase

the goats back into their pen. "

I brought a Subway turkey sandwich, a salad, a plum and a peach.

(Everyone else was barbecuing, but I didn't want to wait for my food to

cook...I knew I would start snacking if I had to wait and was hungry)

I also brought a bag of those WOW chips (a little nervous about eating

that " Olean " stuff, but I really wanted some chips and those seemed like

the best deal for points. They weren't too bad, but I don't think I'd

make a habit of eating them)

Then for a treat, I drove into town with a friend for a Starbucks Latte.

(really roughing it out on the ranch!)

When it was all said and done, I got out of there with points to spare.

We set up our shade tent F-A-R away from the potluck table and I turned

my chair so I couldn't look at it. That seemed to be a good strategy.

:-)

It was fun and I felt a sense of accomplishment - that good feeling of

being in control...not being swept away by all the food...throwing all

caution to the wind.

I expect that as I continue on program, it will get easier and become

more of a second nature to me. Right now I have to do things very

intentionally and really focus on staying on program. (It might sound

weird, but I brought my food journal and journaled everything right

there at the party...that's how intentional I have to be right now!)

I'd love to hear how things went for all of you. Good, bad, or

otherwise.
