Guest guest
Andy, Just wondering if anyone has ever brought up or tried doing something like ALA chelation on their pet? The reason I ask is I have a min. schnauzer (6 years old) that has over the past 2 1/2 years had various strange health issues that have required lots of medical attention. I stopped allowing them to vaccinate him in 2002 (it turns out pets don't need vaccines but every 3 years if even then and most vets. will tell you to do it every year to make $$). Anyway a year ago he was diagnosed with cushings disease. The treatment (toxin that kills part of the adrenal gland) made him worse and he almost died and went into addisonian crisis. He now has 's because his addrenals were completely wiped out. It's actually better now because it's easier to manage (but very expensive for the steriods). I'm wondering if being exposed to mulch in our backyard (maybe arsenic in it) and mercury in all of his vaccines have caused much of his problems. The vet that use to see him thought he had some autoimmune disease (because he had uveitis one time and then had a really bazaar ulceration in his mouth another). We're having positive results with ALA on our son (we've done 9 rounds so far your protocol). Any comments are welcome and I hope those of you who have pets that are part of the family will understand where I'm coming from. I'm not Andy and I generally do not answer posts addressed to him (which this is). But, since you are asking something that I have personal answer to (I know the answer is " yes " because *I* brought it up!), I'll answer. I seriously considered chelating a cat, and also looked into getting a hair test done on him. Did not end up doing either of these but did get some info on the hair testing. To do a hair test through DDI, you need a vet's signature. DLS does NOT have a vet on staff or available to do this. I found a local animal acupuncturist who said they would sign if I wanted this done. If I recall correctly, however, DDI has no reference ranges for animals, so the results might not be very useful. good wishes, Moria

I personally haven't, but that may be a viable idea (my family is owned by a dog with GI/suspected pancreas problems and food intolerance possibly caused by an overvaccination at the AC shelter). Here are some places where you can find answers to your questions and possibly some holistic vets: http://ahvma.org/ - American Holistic Veterinary Med.Association (there are listings of their members) http://www.altvetmed.com/pages/organizations.html - list of other associations of complementary/alternative/holistic vets; BeyondVaccination/ - group dedicated to alternative/holistic veterinary Dog_Nutrition/ - a group on alternative dog nutritions helpfuldogclub/ Hope this helps. Good luck.
