They're the only two deaf kids in their respective schools so getting to meet others would be wonderful but we just can't swing it. We will be checking out the Sturbridge conference but it only meets every other year. My husband and I have attended the e School for the Deaf Mainstream conference - it's in the fall in Springfield Mass and every year we've gone, it's been excellent. e is also an oral school so if your family's chosen oral language, this is a good conference too. For parents attending the first time, e has scholarships on a first come, first serve basis - I think they pay half your tuition which made it so that Hugh (my husband) and I could both attend. Twice I got funding from my state's developmental disability group (Governor's Council on Developmental Disabilities) They have funding for conferences - either to put a conference on, or to attend one. You can get this grant as the parent of a child with a disability. You just need to be sponsored by an organization or a business. I imagine other states might have similar arrangements. I think it is great for my daughter because she is the only child her age with hearing aids that she knows! I can see about passing something on if there are some Listen-up folks attending and maybe we could set a time to meet in the Hospitality Room? Kind of back on topic for this thread, I know the AG Bell conference does seem pricey. Some of the things I have done in the past to offset that is. Just send one family member and room with friends. The information I take back from this conference every year is so valuable to most of the professionals I deal with daily for my daughter. I really hope everyone can come! Angie in San Francisco!!!! I went to my first one 10 years ago and the price hasn't increased much at all. But add in the pricy hotel and eating out and travel and it can add up. I go to lots of conferences for work that last the same length but cost 5 times what AG Bell does. I'm really hoping to go this summer - more for Maggie than for me.
