Guest guest
> > ... > Let's just add that to our list of stupid self-glutenings, shall we? Just the other day I came in to the house, a bit hungrier than normal. There on the counter were the packs of various Keebler cookies for the kids' school lunch boxes. I thought " Oh, I could have a pack of either these fudge stripey ones or these chip ones... " I was just about to open one when I remembered that whole gluten thing. I *Honestly* *_Completely Forgot_* about Gluten there, for a moment. Now THAT would have qualified as a stupid self glutening. Failing to read an ingredients list on an item you believe to be GF is merely lack of total discipline and diligence. Eating Keebler Fudge Stripes because you completely forgot about celiac disease - THAT's stupid self glutening. Mind you, I didn't eat the cookies. I remembered that celiac thing just nanoseconds before the first one landed smack dab in the middle of my belly. (Those cookies are one bite each, thank you very much. None of this nursing them all afternoon like my kids do!) As I found myself flabbergasted that I'd forgotten about celiac disease for a moment, I remembered two stories from this list: - the person who came in from a long run with his/her sister and immediately ate two Fig Newtons because he/she forgot the Figgies had gluten! - the woman who snatched the onion ring from the Marine's hand in a restaurant because she found resistance futile! My most stupid self glutening was eating the Aussie Chips at Outback EVEN THOUGH THE MENU CLEARLY STATES THEY ARE NOT GF. Other than failing to head the printed word squarely in front of my face in order to self gluten, I don't think of my other self glutenings as stupid. Regrettable, yes. Painful, yes. Didactic, yes. But not stupid. Only the Aussie Chips at Outback qualify for my list of stupid. Failing to read an ingredients list of a product you think is GF... well, that's unfortunate, regrettable, painful, and didactic. But I wouldn't put it in the stupid category. Hugs! Hope you and your DS don't get sick. Fondly, Esther
