Guest guest
Hi Joy, This is where the issue of the metal ions comes in........... and what if any effect may be experienced by the baby of the mother having higher than normal levels from the prothesis......... though there seems to be some evidence that this levels off so that would be the time you would be looking for........... There is info around about that........ The release of the ions seems to be correlated to how much use you give the prothesis which is also something you could think about............. I guess there are women who work within the metal's industries who have children.......... you may be able to hunt down any info on that via the net............if any one bothers to keep stats on it......... I mention that as my OS states that all the info he can find suggests we run the same risks as people who work within those industries............ Guest guest
Hi , I believe Dr. H. is talking about the Ilizarov technique. I don't know much about it, but apparently enough to spell it right on an internet search hehe... so here's a bunch of pages detailing it. The first few seem to be in reference to limb lengthening - the last 10 or so directly related to CF tx. Hope this helps - doesn't sound like fun. I'm sorry! There are more pages that came up on the search - just type in Ilizarov clubfoot into your search engine and you should get most of these and more.
