Guest guest
It seems I have done everything but send you all my birth story.. so here it is! I was nervous beyond belief and slept maybe an hour! I kept thinking SOMETHING had to go wrong! After my hour " nap " I got up, showered, woke Warren to get up and shower, packed my last few items into my suitcase and woke the kids to dress and take to the babysitters house. Dropped them off at the babysitters and we were on our way to the hospital.. arrived there at 5:45am and checked in at admitting, got my bracelet and I was now " official " the panic REALLY kicked in! We went up to L&D, I went potty, put on my gown, signed my consents, advance directive, hooked up to the monitors and waited for the shifts to change! Shift change and in came my " delivery team " ! Warren was given scrubs to put on, put my my compression boots on, IV was put in (just had one " screw up " this time.. IV went in on the 2nd try YAY!), shaved, and they put in my catheter after much trepidation.. didn't hurt I just kept feeling like I had to pee, but it went away in about 20 mins. At 8:15am they wheeled me into the OR to get my spinal. I was VERY nervous about the spinal as it didn't work with .. they tried 6 times and it hurt badly with him. Thankfully this time it was in on the FIRST try thanks to a GREAT anesthesiologist, who then put a bit of versed and compazine in my IV. First delivery I didn't have to have Warren catch my " stomach contents " in the kidney pan. I was laid down, curtain put up, and they didn't tie my hands! I was excited I'd be able to touch my baby before he left me! Warren came in, and they started. I was in and out of sleep due to the versed but I remember telling them I couldn't move my toes.. which was annoying the heck out of me, and the OB says " Honey consider that a GOOD thing! " LOL Warren stood watching the whole time, then the OB said " Baby's coming! " and I immediately awoke and heard him crying before they even got him out! No pulling and tugging.. his little head was right under the incision. As they're taking him out they're commenting on what a BEAUTIFUL face he had and I could NOT wait to see which of my other children he looked like, Warren got two great pics of him being delivered! Warren left my side to be with Hunter and cut his cord (first child he's had that opportunity and he felt great to be able to do it this time!) the OB asked for the apgars and chuckled that it should've been 12 b/c he was crying before he came out! Apgars were 10 & 10 and the dr's were shocked b/c they just " don't give 10's in this hospital " . They wrapped Hunter up and Warren brought him over to me to see and touch and then they were off to the nursery for size and cleanup! My OB kept commenting on how amazed she was that I had no scar tissue nothing (my old OB said the same thing with Saralyn but I assumed it was just because she born 11mos after the first one!) it looked like it was my first section and on that note being my uterus was in great shape we skipped the tubal! I couldn't commit to the tubal and felt that if my life would be endangered by another pregnancy due to a thinning uterus I wouldn't have a problem getting my tubes tied, but I felt " too young " to do something *permanent*! My OB finished closing me up, just about the time Warren was coming back to announce that Hunter born at 8:53am EST, APGARS of 10 & 10, was a healthy 7lbs 13ozs and 20 " long (so much for that tiny baby I was waiting for) head circumference of 14 1/4 " and shoulders were 13.5 " . He was beautiful and healthy!! I was moved to recovery for an hour until I could begin to move my legs and then went to my maternity room. I was feeling great but a bit groggy from the versed. Made the phone calls announcing our little guys arrival, and snuggled with my new baby boy. I have felt great and no pain from my c-section. Only pain I've had has been from the afterpain cramps (and only while nursing which is normal) oh and a bit of left sided achiness but nothing to write home about.. if thats it I'm VERY grateful! The nurse came in early on the 4th and removed my catheter, IV, and got me out of bed. She was shocked when I stood right up without any help and went to the dressing cabinet, got my toiletry bag, walked to the bathroom brushed my teeth and fixed my hair seeing I wasn't allowed in the shower.. and then proceeded to get dressed! The OB came in to check me out while I was doing this and she stood there in shock as well! With no pain, its easy! I walked down to the nursery to retrieve my baby and they couldn't believe I was standing upright, not hunched over. Even though I was doing great my OB wanted to watch for signs of infection in the incision so we stayed the full 4 days allowed, and came home yesterday. I was so worried about attempting nursing again this time after my " lack of supply " issues with the others.. but being I've been on an antibiotic compatible with nursing I've been able to nurse him from 2.5hrs old, except one feed in the nursery his first night of 2ozs of formula he's been fully breastfed and doing great. He lost 12ozs from his birth weight and was discharged at 7lbs 1oz but he's got plenty of wet/dirty diapers that we know he's getting enough and I got *engorgment* for the FIRST time ever and I must say it is NOT comfortable but SO happy as I know I can do it!! Thats it.. we're home, happy and feeling great! My angel is absolutely amazing how well he fits in. His brother is over the top in love with him, which his sister isn't so sure and keeps " hurting " him by trying to be nice. Hoping it'll all even out soon! Here's the link to his hospital pic.. not the greatest but cute nonetheless. http://www.cherished-memories.com/ " >www.cherished-memories.com Hospital Code: F02 (thats a zero) ID# 19669 Thanks for all the support girls.. all our worries about our precious little man are GONE.
