Guest guest
We got our DBB a couple of weeks ago and it didn't have the shoe's with the strap across them and she kept getting out of them a several times a day. I took the brochure from the files section (Markell) to the orthist and he ordered them for me. I got them yesterday and it is even worse, she gets out of them every hour. I know that there have been suggestions before but can't remember all of them. I am pulling the strap as far as possible and I tried taking the tongue out. What else can I do? This is are third set of braces and I am soo frustrated. We started with AFO's and she was out as soon as we got her in them, went to the DBB with shoes that just lace up and she was out several times a day, now DBB with shoes with laces and straps and she is out every hour. Is this a common problem? Any reasons why we might be having this problem? Thanks, 1/30/04 bilateral clubfeet DBB 23/
Guest guest
Non skid socks - with rubber dots at the bottom; push heal all the way down; laces open all the way, hold with your finger the foot down ( at the corner of the foot and ankle); pull the strap as tight as you can; laces as tight as you can but not extremely tight; plastizoid maybe needs to be pushed down a bit to fit into the concave right above the heal so the it stops the heal from coming up; use rubber cement to re glue; length of bar = to shoulder length ( bottom screws of the shoes); help her learn to kick with both feet in the bar; get the shoes! Frustrated! How do I keep her in the shoes? We got our DBB a couple of weeks ago and it didn't have the shoe's with the strap across them and she kept getting out of them a several times a day. Guest guest
, I think I remember that the doctor that you were taking to was not necessarily following the Ponseti method exactly. Are you positive that her feet are actually corrected? It would be very difficult to keep her foot in the brace if they're not ready to go in yet. They actually may have relapsed also if they are not being held in a corrected position by either the AFO or FAB in the last few weeks. Are you still considering getting a second opinion from a doctor in Minneapolis or going to Iowa City? I think it would help put your mind at ease that everything is okay. Guest guest
Thank you for all of the replys already. I just e-mailed Dr Ponsiti. Do I remember correctly that he responds to them on Friday? is right I have been trying to coach my Dr along to following the Ponseti method and I am just not sure that she is fully corrected. I wish I could get some new pictures up of her feet but I can't get into the photo section at work and the files section is full. If someone want's to take a look at them let me know and I will e-mail them to you. I am sure that I am getting her foot in all the way and I am pulling the strap as far as I can then using the laces then trying to pull the strap tighter again. She was in them for about 2 hours yesterday before she pulled her foot out and there was a big red mark on the top of her foot from the strap that lasted for her hour out of the brace and her whole foot was red, so I think it is tight enough. Guest guest
Dr Ponseti replied already and I just e-mailed him my pictures. I about cried with relief when I got his e-mail. I don't think I realized how worried I have been until I got his response. He thought that perhaps her feet were atypical because she has also gotten out of her cast several times. He asked about a crease on her heal and on the bottom of her foot and she does have creases on her foot and heal. Have any of you had problems with the atypical feet? I would love to hear your stories. Thanks,
Guest guest
Hi Sara, my daughter Sadie has atypical feet. She has the crease that Dr Ponseti was asking about. Its a condition he calls plantaris. He diagnosed Sadie in oct. She was casted again and placed in mitchel shoes. Her R foot is almost normal and her left is much better. There are different theories about why it happens. It results in contraction of the plantar fascia and cavus. Which means high arch or crease in the bottom and somtimes sides of your childs feet. We took pictures of the bottom of Sadies and Dr Ponseti was able to diagnos Sadie online. best wishes and let me know if I can share any info with you.
