I'm probably just having normal pre-op nerves here but I have to

admit I'm getting a little worried about the outcome of my upcoming

shoulder surgery. I haven't really heard any positive results from

reconstruction operations on EDSer's and have to say that I'm already

worried about heading down the same track as my legs, that of one

procedure leading to another and then the inevitable I'm sorry it's

knackered and there's northing we can do speech. I trust my surgeon

implicitly and know he will do his very best for me, but he nor I can

account for my freaky body and genetics sadly. I know I need

something doing and have to try, but the possibilities of making

things worse are really nagging at me.

Argh, just ignore me - it's 3am in the morning, I can't sleep and I'm

having far too much time to think about the possibilities! I really

wish minds came will a kill switch so we could turn them off when

they get over active! Seriously though, I was just wondering if

anyone did have any positive shoulder reconstruction/stabilisation

surgery stories at all? I'd really appreciate some encouragement that

this might work.

Thanks gain for listening, don't know what I'd do without my

wonderful family!

Love and hugs...Jo

Hi Jo,

Well, my history with shoulders isn't the same as yours, but I did

have rotator cuff surgery. I'm not really sure if they repaired it -

I don't think they did. I think they just cleaned up bone spurs and

scraped bone so that it didn't tear further, the ligaments and

tendons that touch it or are close to it. ?? I think this is right.

Anyway, it has been successful for me; however I don't

really 'dislocate', I only have subluxations. My shoulders still get

sore a lot, but I'm thinking it now has to do more with the spinal

stenosis and age than anything else.

As far as physical therapy goes afterwards, I can tell you I had an

ACL replacement on my knee, and the surgeon found in trying to repair

the cartledge, that it just sort of disinegrated, and he had to put a

stint in it's place. He had me do PT twice as slow (couldn't move

the knee at ALL for the first week) and for twice as long. UGH! Can

you say " SICK of PT " ???? I think that's one reason why I hate PT so

terribly much - BUT, the ACL replacement HAS held!!!

I don't know if any of this helps you, but I hope so. You can always

write me offlist if you like also, OK?

Hang in there, Jo! When is the surgery for again??
