I was just reading an article a friend gave me, and the woman writing it

was saying how people said she didn't look sick. She would tell them,

" this is what sick with lupus looks like. " I might adapt it to me!

We are Gloria and Earline and we are raising G's grandson. He will be 2

in a few weeks and was diagnosed 3 months ago with Autism.

When he came to us for good at 3 months we had no idea what was

happening. He was a screamer, arched himself away from all human contact. The

only time he seemed happy was when he was in semidarkness lying on his back

watching the ceiling fan go around. Lots of things seemed out of sync but

being 48 and 57 we figured we were being overly concerned as older moms. We

gave him lots of TLC and took him in for his check ups and prayed but we knew.

At 5 months he started saying sentences-I love you, ready to go now, go

Yankees-seriously. He did this off and on until he was a year old then

nothing-no mama, dada, just silence. He babbles some now but at times is mute

for long periods Keion is in speech therapy and OT. He is at the 6 months

level in speech and has fine motor problems and sensory issues from he!!-lol

He is a runner and screamer, will run and gallop ,screaming as if in absolute

bliss.

Keion is addicted to Baby Einstein videos, music especially jazz or

classical, door locks, green vegetables ,anything that spins or twirls ,water

and strings. He does not like loud people, bright lights, sweets, hot weather or

clothes! lol

His birthmom has not seen him since he was 2 months old-a sad case but

not a bad person-his father is out of the picture and has serious problems as

well so it looks like we will be raising lil man.

Ladies this is a marvelous list the courage and love here is amazing. We read

what is going on and it brings us great comfort and helps us be less afraid.

Sometimes we get very discouraged but then we come here and get some wisdom,

laughter and even share some tears and hey it is good medicine for our

souls.-be proud of yourselves.

Hi Gloria and Earline,

Welcome to the group! Keion is very lucky to have both of you. I'm

Maggie, I live in TN with my son, , who just turned 10 (and thinks

he knows everything). has holoprocensephaly. HPE is brain damage

that occurs in utero, and it manifests in as inability to speak

(we use sign), ADHD, gross and fine motor delays, and autistic

characteristics. This group keeps me going, especially in the middle of

the night when hope can be elusive. I am glad you joined, and keep

posting!

Welcome, ladies! What a nice early diagnosis. You must have really been on

the ball.

Oh, that was my son. He was an archer and a screamer...but his

semi-darkness pursuit was music. For HOURS.

> At 5 months he started saying sentences-I love you, ready to go now, go

At five months!? I've never HEARD of that! What did the doctors say?

>He babbles some now but at times is mute

When was dx'd at 2 years, 10 months, he was at about a 8 month level of

speech -- babbling, a word or two MAYBE. Speech therapy did WONDERS for him

at that time.

I'm the list moderator, and I can't tell you how much what you wrote touched

me. When I started the list, I dreamt of having a place that would be

talked about that way, but I didn't really believe it was possible...there

can be so much strife and competition in the autism community. THANK YOU

for letting me know that my dream is in fact reality. :'-)

Welcome Gloria and Earline (great names!)

I'm glad you found us. This indeed is a special place. I know we are all

very grateful to Jacquie for creating and maintaining this list.

I think it is wonderful that you are raising Keion. I know many of the moms

here worry about what would happen to our kids if anything happened to

us - - we should all be so lucky as to have people like you to look out for

them.

Sometimes with a child that is less verbal they need to get their sensory

issues straightened out first then the language comes next. What state are

you both in? How often does he get OT? It sounds like he has lots of love

and that's important too!
