Guest guest
We took our five year old PDD-NOS/ADHD son to a Psychiatrist knowledgable in the DAN! protols. He suggested we put our son on Catapres, also known as Clonidine. Has anyone had experience with this drug for hyperactivity? Please advise. Hi my son was started on clondine, 1/4 a tab (.025mg) every nite about one year ago. It helped hyperactivity alot and promoted sleep, however the rebound about 7-9 hours later was significant. We stopped giving at nite because he (at the time was 4 yo)would wake up a 3-4 am and be jazzed. We stated giving it .05 mg in the am, initially made him too sleepy, but after 1-2 weeks he did great, except for the rebound which again was very significant, we switched to a longer acting alpha blocker (clonidine is a short acting alpha blocker) Tenex about 6 weeks ago, it last about 15-17 hours with little or no rebound, we give it at bedtime and it works thru his kindergarten day...we really like it better than clonidine, although clonidine was good too
Guest guest
I worked at a group home where we had a kid on the catapres (transdermal). Whenever the school called saying we needed to come get him because of a meltdown we asked that they make sure he still had the patch on. Often times, in those cases, he didn't. We put it in the middle of his upper back between the shoulder blades to keep him from taking it off himself. In his case the patch left the skin where he'd had the patch darker than the rest of his back. We moved it around from week to week. I would make sure that the school and any babysitters or others know about it because some might question the dark marks and mistake them for abuse. You may also want to ask about the adhesive to see if that contains gluten. Guest guest
My support group leader gave it to her granddaughter for about 2 yrs, from around 4-6. They felt it helped enormously, but they either switched to concerta or are giving both, I'm pretty sure they are only doing concerta now. But, her granddaughter is very subtle now in her symptoms, at 7 yrs old. Debi > > We took our five year old PDD-NOS/ADHD son to a Psychiatrist > > knowledgable in the DAN! protols. Guest guest
Yeah, it made my son a raving lunatic. It only made matters worse. a -- " mvargos " <ftrevino@...> wrote: We took our five year old PDD-NOS/ADHD son to a Psychiatrist knowledgable in the DAN! protols.
