When to increase dose?

On third round of chelation using DMSA +ALA every 3 hours (4 during night). My

daughter is 4.5years and weighs 38lbs. She is currently receiving 12.5mgs of

each per dose and I am wondering if/when I should increase and what to. I have

capsules of 100mg DMSA and 50mg of ALA so it is easier to divide these equally

i.e. into doses of 12.5mg or 25mg etc.

Any comments welcome

I increased the dose whenever my son seemed to plateau at the previous

dose. This was generally every 10 rounds or so.

If you are feeling comfortable with the chelation process,

and she is not having real difficulties with chelation

(either " on " or first couple of off days), increase whenever

you want. The " control " on how high to go is based on

symptoms or side-effects. You don't want her (or you!)

to be too uncomfortable. The high end of Andy's

recommended range (1/2 mg per pound) is a good stopping

place for a child, esp a non-verbal or not-self-aware

child (since it is hard to tell for certain what side

effects may be.)

Your comment about what doses are easier to divide is very

appropriate here. That is a perfectly reasonable way to

pick. However, 25 mg is OVER 1/2 mg per pound (based on

weight of 38 pounds).

Can you divide into 5 parts for 20 mg?

good wishes,

Moria

Just want to say thanks to all who answered this question.

What would I do without you?! (nothing probably!)
