Guest guest
Hi Des, You alluded to " brain cell damage " caused by total anesthesia (TA). Do you or does anyone else know where to find more info on this? I have had 8 TA's in the last 15 years (6 in the last 10 years)and my short term memory has taken a hit for sure; also my language capability: I used to be able to spell anything correctly " automatically " ,now I often have to think or try writing different variations to decide on the correct way and even then sometimes have to resort to checking the dictionary. Ed LC+ Mont 11/03 PS my first surgery ever was a lower back fusion which apparently precluded the use of epidurals/spinals from then on. > One thing not noted in your comparison is the duration of the surgery. > > One of the big reasons I chose Mr. Treacy in Birmingham was a short duration. > My first was 35 min. and the second was 45 min. because he was teaching other > surgeons during that one. > > I was under the general anesthetic for about an hour and a half total.
