Hi Trish,

Not that I am an expert on this, but what you said just sounded like me five

years ago, when they diagnosed me with IBS (irritable bowel syndrome).

They tested me with all sorts of machines b4 they came to that one....

apparently they have to out rule everything else and if they don't find anything

they put it down to IBS........

To me is sounds like IBS is playing up with you, have you noticed that what you

eat can make the pains/cramps worse??

With me IBS was diagnose 5yrs ago, then migraines then depression and other

stuff up to this last year where I have got worse with muscular pain everywhere

and hands and feet going numb and pins and needles, but also with in the last

year my IBS has played up something chronic and also I have been having problems

with Ovarian viral things, where my ovaries tend to play up a lot and they get

infected somehow.... (not sexual at all, I know that because we hardly have a

sex life here anymore), Sorry to be so graphic...... At times I can't tell the

difference between IBS and my ovaries the pains that bad.

As for it being part of your FMS, I suppose I would say yes, but please don't

take my word for it as this FMS is all new to me, what with only just being

diagnosed six months ago.

I do hope and pray that things start to feel better, and if you ever want to

chat please feel free to email me at:

Hugs and best wishes

severe stomache cramps and loss of appetite

hello everyone,

I have just had 4 days of hell with severe stomache cramps and loss

of appetite, only controlled by strong painkillers.

The pain is a contraction type pain which comes in waves. No

sickness or runs just lots of pain. I have lost 7lbs in the last

week.

I have just been to see my GP who believes it is conected with my

FMS?

I have not had this sort of pain for over 4 years and I was hoping

somebody else has suffered from this and what pain relief did you

try that worked? Or has my FM moved in to a new stage?

All help gladly welcomed!

Trish

You might want to consider seeing a GI doctor. It could be irritable

bowel and they might be able to help you with medication to ease the

spasms.

Trish,

I was surprised to read your post only because I have the same problem! Mine

started right before Thansgiving and after 3-4 weeks I finally ended up in

the emergency room. They told me then that they though it sounded like I

needed my gallbladder out it was all the same sort of symptoms so the next

day they sent me for an MRI...Meanwhile the dr. put me on Barbituates for

pain and Prilisac.....The MRI didn't show it was my Gallbladder and they

wanted me to go see a stomach specialist....It finally got a little better

about a week ago but now has seemed to have started up again.....I recall

having this about 4 other times over the past couple of years only it never

lasted that long....I havent gone to the specialist because I am so used to

drs. not knowing whats causing any of my stomach problems, no one ever

mentioned a connection to the FM, I would be interested to hear what your dr.

finds it is.... All I know is the pain is excrutiating I couldn't even lay

down the pains where so bad they even went into my back ...They do feel just

like contractions...Let me know what you find out.....Do you notice that if

you ate anything they got worse? In my case it was......I hope you feel

better soon and hope they figure it out!

Hello...

I am new here on this list. Found it today. Have had fibromyalgia for

8 years.

The stomach cramps did I have for 1 year ago. It was horrible pains...

Then I talked to a woman with fibromyalgia too. She told me: oh yes,

I have too had these cramps. Only way she (and I) got rid of it was

to do an exercise:

Lay on your back. Raise your feets so your legs are straight up. Legs

and back will be at an angle of 90' Lower your feets untill they are

almost on the floor. Then up again. Keep your back always close to

the floor. If your abdomen/stomach muscles is very weak, your back

will try to raise up from floor. It is important to have back

always " glued " to the floor :)

Do this 10 times in the beginning. Increase gradually untill you have

found the amount you can do without doing the FMS worse.

For me and the other woman this exercise was the best way. It seems

as the muscles in stomach and back is so weak that we get cramps in

stomach. I have many times been wondering: " this seems to be same

problems as babies with colic cramps " .....because I felt the pain

came from back too...

I really hope this exercise will help you. I know how bad these

cramps are, uuhhh...I ate painkillers before I knew about this

exercise. Now when I feel the cramps are on the way to build up, I

lay down on floor and do the exercise...I feel it from back

first....so I catch it on a very early state...

I have had a lot of stomach problems over the years, and when my

gallbladder was removed I thought that would finally be the end of it. No

such luck. Afterwards, I even ended up at the ER a few times for it

because the pain was so bad I thought I was having a heart

attack. Sometimes it would last days, sometimes weeks, and then it could

go away for months... never could relate it to anything I ate, or any other

Trigger, not even stress...or at least not cause and effect where you could

pin in down. It was always accompanied by severe diarrhea and cramping,

but it always started in my upper stomach or even back, slowly working

down, and felt eerily similar to a gallbladder attack. After numerous

tests of all kinds the diagnosis was some kind of colic and IBS. I had

always assumed that IBS was a lower GI problem, but I'm not a doctor. Even

at that, I think they just wanted to call it something and get rid of

me! LOL Anyway, a while after I started taking anti-depressants, like

serendipity, the tummy troubles also improved. Now that I am taking

opiates, it is even better, and also I don't suffer from constipation like

so many do...that side effect is actually working in my favor. I'm not

sure what the connection is with FM, though I am thinking it was after the

surgery that I first noticed symptoms. And despite what I've read, FM DOES

get worse over time, at least it has for me. Another odd thing.. I have

PVCs (premature ventricular contractions, extra systole, skipped beats,

whatever you want to call them) and when my stomach acts up, my heart skips

like crazy too. Crazy was the operative word, I thought I had to be

because what's the connection between heart and stomach? When they got

really bad, and I was having the chest pains, I was sure I was going to the

big house! No doctor had an explanation for me, but our VET told me if the

vagus nerve is stimulated or irritated, it could account for both

symptoms. How do you like that, the vet had to tell me. So after I

transferred my records there and had my flea dip and grooming, I also got a

nice new rabies tag for my collar! Ha ha ha, I really should take him as

my personal doctor, he is way more compassionate and educated than some of

the doctors I've seen! Oh well, bless us all! Hang in there!
