Guest guest
First, I want to say welcome to the group. Being diagnosed with diabetes is not the end of the world, but can be the beginning of a long and healthy life. You need to learn to control diabetes or it will control you. There is a lot of information available from groups, from the internet, from books. Read, ask questions, but don't try to understand everything at once. It will overwhelm you which will lead to stress and stress causes higher bg (blood glucose) readings for most people. Some people can control diabetes with sensible eating and exercise, while others control with meds and/or insulin. Then, there are some members that have brittle diabetes and no matter what they do, they cannot control it. As long as you do your best, that is the most important thing. Probably one of the first things you will learn is that no two people with diabetes are alike especially when it comes to food. What one person can eat, another cannot. The best way to learn what you can and cannot eat is by eating a particular food then testing to see the results. If you get a high reading, the next time eat a smaller amount or exercise after eating. I eat almost anything I want in moderation, but I know if I eat higher carbs, I have to earn them. I earn my carbs by exercising about 30 minutes after I eat. Don't expect to start getting lower numbers immediately. It can take a few weeks. Don't get discouraged. This is a great group of people. Ask questions, make comments. We are here to offer support/encouragement. hugs Eunice - Type 2 since 1999 - last A1c was 5.22 Control with sensible eating, exercise, positive attitude/Faith in God
