Guest guest
Hi Tony, I was almost 100 lbs. overweight at diagnosis in November 2001. I resorted to an 1,800 calorie diet plan and walked for an hour every single day. In four months I lost half the weight I needed to lose and I was able to rid myself of all meds. After that, I joined a health club and continued to work out. I not only did cardiovascular workouts, but also strength training. The muscles will eat up the glucose quicker than anything else. I had to increase my daily calorie intake because of my long workouts. I am now healthier than I have ever been in my life. I refer to diabetes as my wake up call. I will never return to my former life. I am enjoying the " new me " too much. I have the energy of a teen, and I am 43 years young. . ..like you. Personally, any type of medical interference to lose weight, would not have been an option for me. I knew I needed to change my attitude and my relationship with food. I soon learned that it is best to eat to live rather than live to eat. The process is slow. But remember, your weight creeped up on you slowly, and it will take time to lose it, too. Take one day at a time. Set realistic goals and give yourself time to achieve them. I continue to work out at the gym every day. It has become a part of my life - a natural high. I also choose my foods wisely. I do not put anything in my mouth that does not have nutritional benefits. It has taken me four years to get to this point. However, I did it slowly and allowed my body & my BRAIN to acclimate. I am enjoying some of the best years of my life! I am 15 lbs. shy of my goal weight. I plan to be there before I get married on Feb. 14th!!! ~Rhonda Y. > > Hi folks, I've been lurking here for a couple of weeks and have really > learned a lot -- thank you!
