I had a major problem with cookies. Those really short soft cookies with

icing. One of the larger ones is 4 points. I tried to have half of one. Bad

mistake. I ended up eating another half. Then before we left I had another

small one (1 point). I realize I didn't spend that many points on these but

it was a head trip and the knowledge that if those were in MY house, I'd

feel like overindulging. They kept singing to me all evening. ARGH. Makes

me really realize that having a points friendly environment is a big part of

having a winning outcome. (The only way I kept in control was having my

journal with me and figuring points BEFORE I ate them - seeing the figure

before your eyes sobers you greatly).

The place where we were at, they were watching the food network. You know

how the TdF makes you want to take a bike ride? Well, the food network

makes you want to eat. They were showing how brownies were made. Yum. I

had to turn away from the TV. That's when we decided to go out biking with

the kids. The food network should be banned. *LOL*

Otherwise was a great time. Just my " problem " with the cookies reminded me

that I will be fighting food issues for the rest of my life even though I am

on the greatest program. **sigh**

I have been planning for the 4th (and 5th) all week and things went

really well. I went to my mom's house last night and they had steak and

corn. I only had a small piece of steak, which was good, since it's 5

pts. for 2 ozs of regular, non-lean cut steak. =)

Then, we went to the Carowinds theme park today and both my husband and

I were worried that this would tough. Well, there was a Subway

restaurant there, so we were spared having to settle for a salad (which

neither of us like to eat). =) Woohoo! Another great thing is that ice

water is free at the stands, so instead of spending $3 a pop on a soft

drink, we drank for free all day! =)

So, I have to admit I got off a lot easier this holiday weekend than I

had anticipated. Which was really nice. =)

So how was your 4th?

Hi everyone,

So...how was your 4th of July celebration?

I was very glad that I planned ahead. I actually stayed away from the

potato salad (which is a shock!).

We shared the 4th with a bunch of friends up at a ranch in Palmer Lake,

Colorado. It was gray and overcast for much of the day, with a little

shower in the afternoon. But there was still a rollicking game of

volleyball and horseshoes, lawn darts, and an unplanned game of " chase

the goats back into their pen. "

I brought a Subway turkey sandwich, a salad, a plum and a peach.

(Everyone else was barbecuing, but I didn't want to wait for my food to

cook...I knew I would start snacking if I had to wait and was hungry)

I also brought a bag of those WOW chips (a little nervous about eating

that " Olean " stuff, but I really wanted some chips and those seemed like

the best deal for points. They weren't too bad, but I don't think I'd

make a habit of eating them)

Then for a treat, I drove into town with a friend for a Starbucks Latte.

(really roughing it out on the ranch!)

When it was all said and done, I got out of there with points to spare.

We set up our shade tent F-A-R away from the potluck table and I turned

my chair so I couldn't look at it. That seemed to be a good strategy.

:-)

It was fun and I felt a sense of accomplishment - that good feeling of

being in control...not being swept away by all the food...throwing all

caution to the wind.

I expect that as I continue on program, it will get easier and become

more of a second nature to me. Right now I have to do things very

intentionally and really focus on staying on program. (It might sound

weird, but I brought my food journal and journaled everything right

there at the party...that's how intentional I have to be right now!)

I'd love to hear how things went for all of you. Good, bad, or

otherwise.

Hi All; I planned ahead, also, and I am so glad I did. I used that rule that my

lecturer gave me, and had a tablespoon each of the items I wanted to try for 1

point each if it was meat cheese, or dessert, and 2 tablespoons for 1 point, if

it was something else, and came away from a 2 day weekend, 2 different family

reunions; ( a happening that could have been a diet disaster), and did not gain

an ounce. Both days I encouraged people to take a walk with me after dinner,

before fireworks began. I managed to walk a total of 6 1/2 miles this past

weekend. It felt good to be in control of me. This is a first for me ...going to

family occasions and not partaking of all things in a big way...I would always,

before, just sort of excuse myself and say it was a holiday, and one day didn't

matter. Well, it always did matter a lot, and I would always gain some, be

depressed, a lot about it, vow to do better next time, etc. Usually, what I ate

was really not worth the gain, and certainly not worth the time it took to get

it back off. Or maybe I was so discouraged I just didn't try to get it off. I

have been there many times. I am glad to have another holiday past me. Pat from
