Now I would rather spend time in Middle Earth - Star Wars was good -

but nothing can compare to The Lord of the Rings. I like the healing

of Aragorn and the Elves, too. I even have an Elven name from the

time I spent in an online discussion group for LOTR.

-------------

All very true and I agree completely except ...

If I have to choose between being Obiwan or Gandalf, I much prefer

having a light saber to a knobby stick when confronting the forces

of darkness and evil. Not to mention having been called both an Orc

and a Rock Troll more than a few times in the past few years.

Look out ...my daughter, is a HUGE LOTR fan!!!

In ceramics class, all of her prjects have been LOTR themed.... Now she is

attempting to " sculpt " the Swan boat of Gladriel! I haven't seen the other 2 or

3 projects she's done so far.... this is just a beginner's class....

You daughter will find good company here. Her art projects sound way

cool.

I read the series when I was in jr high (a long time ago, indeed). I

read them all again to the girls the year the FOTR came out.

We found the audio version on cd at our library and since we had them

out continuously we decided to get our own copy. My oldest is

reading the books again herself - and my number 2 has listened to

each book about 7 times.

We also have the extended version of FOTR and TTT.

The girls sit around discussing the finer points in amazing detail.

Our screen saver is from Two Towers, we have several calendars, book

marks, toys hanging around and just one computer program. I also

downloaded the entire course from B&N last year and we've gone

through some of it - but I discovered the girls knowledge went far

beyond the course expectations.

There is a very active online group and if you are interested I will

look up the address. I spent some time there, but just don't have

the time to keep it up.

You just go ahead and be Obiwan - but remember that although the

light saber is flashy - it doesn't compare in power to the humble

staff.

However, I can understand your reluctance to being called and Orc and

a Troll. The orcs were originally elves that were somehow corrupted -

maybe they can be rehabilitated and emerge similar to elves again

This was a huge discussion on the discussion boards - and never fully

decided - perhaps you could be the experimental data for the theory??

Re: Yoda Comment

send me the info off list

bonnieh4455@...

has read each book several times, watched the extended versions that we

own countless times. I also read the entire series in high school.

is 15.5 years old. It's amazing our common interests in literature and

music and movies!

If I remember, I'll try to take digital pix of the projects and send them.

What's the course you were referring to? Can you send me that link too???

Thanks!

The course I used to frequent was part of and Noble University

(BNU) - and online 'class'. This one was free and ran for over a

year. Unfortunately they aren't offering it anymore. However, many

of the people that were there are now over at Tolkien's Ring. I

haven't hung out there, too many things to do - maybe someday. They

are very friendly there - and very wise in all things Tolkien.

The web address http://groups.msn.com/tolkiensring

My daughters are 12, 10, 8 and 7 (on Saturday) I've lost count of

the times we've watched the movies and the appedicies.

My oldest gets upset when we watch the DVDs because my 10yo is always

correcting the movie - she know everything!

Looking forward to the pix.
