It is a form of autism but kids with Aspergers can talk and express themselves however, they can not stand the loud noises and they do very well in school. They are good readers which is him - he is at the end of second grade and reads on 5th grade level. He has to do things in a certain way and can not leave a task to do another one until the one he is working on is done and done to his liking. When he folds his pants if he has only worn them a couple of hours I will tell him to save them for the next day and he has a way of folding them that is unreal. Just thought I'd through that in for food for thought Like I said I have a med review on Thursday for him and I am going to ask the Dr. about it and take it from there. Guest guest Posted May 31, 2004 Report Share Posted May 31, 2004 Hmmm, thinking of the amount of time my Karl spent in the time out corner, I am going to go out on a limb here and say,,,, if he is easy to get along with, it's probably NOT ODD lol. It's strange because we have lived with it for so long, that I don't really think of it much, we just have to raise him a lot differently than our other kids. He has to have everything VERY structured. If you have lunch at 12:00 then that's when he eats, not five till or five after. He just can't handle it. If you know that he loves burritos so you just make one for him for lunch, he will say that he wanted peanut butter and jelly even though he hates that. Just because whatever he can have, he wants the oppposite. Whatever you give him, it's NEVER enough. If he has one ice cream, he wants two, if you let him stay up till 10, he want's it to be 11, and so on and so on. Goofy kid. Thankfully like I said, we have lots of grown ups here so I can always take a time out myself. Before we got our babies, because they couldn't get to concept, I used to have a "mom's in time out" sign that I would stick on my back when it was getting a little rough. Those kids would not have talked to me at that time if the house was on fire, I think. They knew that they had pushed to far and I needed a break. Just ten minutes, but enough to breathe. Now they are all older and when they see Karl cranking up they run for the hills and play video games or go outside. a C Dorothy, Good Luck with the med review!
