Guest guest
Building muscle is very important for making your joints last as long as possible. Especially for us, we need to keep our muscles strong. I used to do these exercises all the time and then just stopped doing them for no apparent reason. Now, with the problems I'm having, I sure wish I would have kept them up. I've started again and thought I would pass this tip on. To exercise your neck without hurting yourself, trying moving it in super-slow motion. Sit or stand so that your back is straight and 'tall', shoulders relaxed. Very slowly start to move. I put my chin to my chest, then back to start. Ear to shoulder each way. Turning to look over shoulder (each way) For me, because I have a hard time looking up, I support my head with my hands. If you can't put your hands behind your head, you could try using a towel as a sling. The key is to do each move very slowly and return to start after each. The weight of you head offers resistance and the super slow motion works your muscles deeply and allows you to feel the vertebrae move so you know when to stop if your neck isn't going to allow it. Don't over do it to start and as you progress, slow it down more and more. The slower the better. You can actually do this with your whole body, just do any kind of isometric exercises you know but slow it down considerably. Happy strength training! Guest guest
Onale, Thanks so much for the neckercises. I definately am weak there after three months of 24/7 hard collar with the soft one before and after that!! The isometric part is very important and my doctor stressed the importance of absolutely NO range of motion work after my collar was off.
