Guest guest
When we got the new style of Markell shoes our orthotist had to order them directly from Markell (I am assuming Markell). The Plastizote inserts were put into the new style when we got them from Iowa. They were put in by whoever my orthotist ordered them from. I don't know if they were necessary or just put in out of habit. She just said the shoes were delivered from Iowa, so I don't know the definite specifics of who put the inserts in. She only ordered them because I insisted. Kaitlin still got sores from them so we only used them for a short while. That is the extent of my experience with the Markells since we use the s now. They were a REALLY nice, soft cushioned shoe. Watch out for the tongues though, we kept the old unpadded tongues and used those. Guest guest
Hi Tasmin Do you know if you're getting the new style Markell shoes or the old ones? The new ones theoretically don't need the insert. The boot is designed in a way that mimics what the insert does. We had inserts in our first pair of shoes, old style. Her heel was rising up and pressing on the bottom of the insert and caused a sore. Then we ground out the inserts and re-padded and then re-padded and changed pads... nothing worked and the insert kept rubbing (bearing in mind that until I cut the hole in the boot her heel was still rising up - user error). But her second pair were the new style and she's never had an insert in those at all. He heel is formed rather well and not a sore since. So I guess the answer is, maybe, maybe not. I tend to err on the side of not needing them with the new shoes. But some brace shops are still putting them in, including the U of Iowa from what I've heard. Anyone else have experience with the new shoes and inserts or not? Guest guest
Owen has never had the inserts. His first pair of shoes were the 'old style' and when I asked the orthotist about inserts, I got the distinct impression that she didn't know what I was talking about - so, rather than have her screw up the shoes, I opted to forgo them. The next and subsequent pairs of shoes have been the 'new' style, and as Kori mentioned, do not need the inserts.
