I had a waterbed at one time, but it hurt my lower back. Then I bought an expensive bed set with the quilted top, but even with extra padding added, I still hurt so bad I could barely get out of bed in the morning. Then my husband and I took an old waterbed frame and bought two regular queen sized air mattresses. Nothing fancy, just plain old ones. We put one in the bottom like a box spring and the other one on top of it. The we added two layers of padding. Total cost for the entire bed - about a hundred bucks. It has made a great deal of difference in how I sleep and how I feel in the morning. Being Canadian and recently married to a Hoosier, I travel between the US and Canada a lot. I also travel quite a bit for work. I bought a twin sized air mattress and a battery powered pump. They go everywhere with me. They fit nicely in the base of my big rolling suitcase, so I can just drag them around. I put the air mattress on top of my hotel room beds (it looks really silly). When visiting at friends or relatives houses, I skip trying to sleep in a bed and just put my air mattress on the floor. Then I put a quilt on it for extra comfort. It works like a charm. Those inexpensive mattresses have made a HUGE difference to me. I wouldn't swap them for every 'Posturpedic' in North America! Lyndi
Guest guest
Interesting on the use of the mattresses. We 'tested' several mattresses this weekend, including an air mattress. Looking at it, I couldn't figure where all of the money was in the manufacturing part. The air mattress part didn't look any thicker than the we have for our camper. Yes, it was surrounding by foam with a 'pillow top' over it, but I figured I could do about the same thing. You've given me motivation! I think that's what I'll do this weekend.
