tonia, thanks..I am going to answer 3 emails in 1 cause my hand is killing me...I am going to end up going to the ER because I think I may have broken something...I reached under my end table and the end table tip onto my hand, wrist and arm and then I preceded to fall with all my weight on my hand, wrist arm. I do have oxycodone for breakthrough pain and took 2 last night and then went to bed with a wrist splint I have. I can't believe the lawyer is right that your SIL can get SSDI on her 1st try because she has a disabled child and only fibro. I am a single mom of 2 children...my son is autistic and my daughter has lupus and alopecia areata...plus I have a list of 7 disorders that are on the list of ssdi reasons to be approved for disability and I lived on nothing for over 2 yrs waiting for a hearing and finally being approved for ssdi and I had 5 drs telling me I couldn't work...I wanted to work still even if it killed me...and they told me no way.

I know in MA with medicaid because my son is on SSI he doesn't have an HMO...and now I was just approved for medicaid and I don't need referals..plus medicaid is going to pay my medicare part b and my secure horizons premium. But I can't use masshealth out of state unless I have an emergency while on vacation...I cannot see a specialist for RSD or anything else out of state. I went to my dr yesterday and had no problem even though I hadn't recieved the card yet and only the letter of approval...they called and put it through so did the pharmacy cause it turned out I had strep and an ear infection. I think that is why I feel last night...I think when i bent over I got dizzy from the ear infection. well even though I had to hen peck this with my left hand I had to answer yout letters..lol. Hope you are doing better then me..Hugs..GinnyTonia wrote:

Ginny,

I think that each State is different, and is able to do things however they choose. I know that Iowa and Nebraska is totally different from each other, even though they both accept each others cards. I can go into Nebraska and they accept my Medical card, and someone from Nebraska can come to Iowa and they will accept their card. I can go into 5 different States and have my Medical Card accepted.....In Nebraska, Kansas, Illinois, South Dakota and Minnesota. And, I know that Iowa accepts all of them. Especially at the teaching Hospitals in Ames and Iowa City.

I don't get Medicare, so I have to have the Red Card which means that I have to get a referral every month to be able to see my pain management doctor. I hate having to remember to get the referral.....but, I refuse to stop seeing my pain doctor either!!

My 18 year old nephew though is on SSD, and he gets a green card, and is able to see any doctor he wants, when he wants, and doesn't have to have a referral to see any kind of doctor when he needs to.

Its just weird how each state does things differently. Why can't we have a Health Care Plan like what Australia, New Zealand, or England, where everyone gets the same health care no matter what, and its already paid for, because the taxes that they pay every pay day pays for it. That way, no one gets left out.......the young, the old, the disabled, the rich and the poor.....they ALL get the same kind of health care. They ALL get the same medications. No one is better than anyone else.

That is what we need here. Not one disease is more important than another. We would all be treated the same no matter what.

Tonia,

My son has had medicaid since he was 3yrs old since he is on SSI because he is autistic. I have never had any problems with drs and he sees alot of specialists and has had tons of medical problems with his GI tract and colitis and esophagitis never mind aspiration pneumonia everytime I turn around. We live in MA and have the best children's hospital..but he is only there when hospitalized he sees all private drs. He has speech thearpy, OT, PT and ABA and all is covered by medicaid. No one has ever said to me we don't accept medicaid except on speech pathologist which then gave me #'s for about 4 others that she would recommend. I just got medicaid for myself since my income is so low on SSDI..they are going to cover my premium B plan cost through medicaid and all prescriptions which is awesome. I know they cover remicade as long as a specialist states it is the only treatment that will help me...and my dr has already told me she wuld fight for

them to cover it. All my drs that I currently have take medicaid..so I will not have to look for a new dr...in fact it will be easier from now on I won't need referals for each specialist I see from my primary care dr anymore...I can see whom ever I choose to whenever a problem arises. So all of the northeast isn't that way when it comes to dealing with medicaid patients. I think being near Boston helps to have a better choice in drs and maybe living in rural areas might be different...but I have never heard of anyone having trouble with medicaid in MA. Hopefuly where it is a problem drs will realize that some people cannot afford ins premiums and that medicaid is a must for some and that by not accepting medicaid patients they are being inconsiderate of the needs of alot of people out there. Hope you had a great weekend..Hugs..Ginny
