Hey, I have stories to tell you about 24 hour collection.

When I was first diagnosed I was in Poland and believe me the medical and health standards then were something else. I was actually in a great hospital, it was the Center for Rheumatoid Diseases in Warsaw, right down the block from my home. The doctors were really good, but there were no supplies at all, starting with medication to medical equipment. I was in a room with 7 other ladies. There was 8 of us and no bathroom. There was only one bathroom on the floor, with 3 separate stalls in it. It was also co-ed. They had no plastic containers for 24 hour urine collections. The had these huge heavy glass bowls, they looked like giant cognac glasses without the stand and they were all set up on the window sill in the bathroom. It was that old heavy glass and probably as big as a soccer ball. They had little labels with our names on them. I was hospitalized for 2 months when diagnosed, and I had to collect urine for 6 weeks without a break. You cannot imagine how difficult it was to pee into one of these things. They were really heavy and in many cases half or almost full because they were only emptied once every 24 hours. Oh, and the smell................. Then, there were some patients that were taking medication that was turning their urine hunter green. Also some people elderly who sometimes couldn't manage to hold one of these between their legs and wind up dropping it and spilling all over the place as well as breaking the dish.

Anyway, the impact of peeing into one of those was so big that years later whenever I have a 24 hour urine collection I go through at least a few nights with the same nightmare. It's my rheumatologist in Poland and she is chasing me with a full bowl of pee and she is drops it on my head.......... This is no joke, I'm telling you the truth.

OK, so bottom line. Get over peeing into a light, plastic container in the privacy of your own bathroom.

I had my creatinine levels checked again last week. The drs office called and now I have to do a 24 hour catch. Fun wow!! I see the rhuemy tomorrow so I'll see what he has to say on all of it.
